Default how to improve my 0-60 time..

ok so i cleaned up and tuned my car in the past week. did plugs, wires, dist cap and rotor, oil and filter. cleaned the K&N FIPK filter, and cleaned my engine bay. so today i was out driving and i wanted to test my 0-60 time. cousin got his phone out and we used the stop watch. i ran 0-60 3 times and they were all about the same. !st 5.7 2nd 5.9 and 6.2 but to be honest i was expecting lower?? i dont have the spare tire, stereo amp and a box with spare fluids and car stuff in my trunk and my 6'3'' 200 lb cousin in the car with me lol im about 5'8'' 150 lbs. im going to take the spare out(i have AAA and the jack is missing from the car so no point really???) and the box of junk. any techniques to launching or anything?

the only truly way to measure initial acceleration is take the car to the track....

the numbers that you have posted are very inaccurate at best....

Gears, sticky tires, and a good clutch. BTW, a stock LS1 f-body is in the neighborhood of 5.0-5.5, you're not doing too bad.

yeah. about every 100lbs taken off should improve 400m times by .1!. anywho. maybe lower tire pressure about 5psi in rears, relocate battery to back trunk right hand corner..... basically anything you can take from the front and put to the back. The weight ratio is about 85%-15%rear on these car's... even it out with swaps and ofcorse weight reduction. maybe consider a nice set of 15" wheels. 15x10s in back with some 26x10.5" mickys will help anyone alot... Should'nt have to worry about axles because the power your running shouldnt kill to much.

man you and your LS comments

to be honest. I have utter dislike for GM products. but respect anything that can throw you in the seat and blow your eardrums out with loud PIPEs, also i give you props for being an active ford forum member with a GM car just like that kid with the scion. Good to hear different opinions from the opposite bread

ya, I was just comparing to the f-body to let you know your times aren't bad at all. But anyway, even the method you used to get the 0-60 time might be flawed. Human error in starting and stopping is a factor, plus your speedo might be slighty off or not keeping up with your acceleration. My gearing is 3.42 from the factory. 4.10's are a very common swap and some go as far as 4.56 and still keep decent driveability thanks to the .50 6th gear.

Was going off his comment of gears in LSx cars, sorry should've been more specific. I was just telling him the common gear ratios used in f-bodies. I think 3.55's is a great middle ground for a street driven mustang with a T-5. There's a fine line with gearing and 0-60 times. Getting into the power band quicker is great, and so is the torque multiplication, but if it causes you to shift more than needed it will hurt the times. Personally I could care less about 0-60, that's something for AWD cars to brag about. There isn't a sanctioned race in the world that bases winners and losers on 0-60. It's just a figure manufacturers and car magazines use to rate an acceleration of a car in real driving situations on the street.

When you speak in Chevy many people in these forums only speak Ford. But on the bright side your big heavy Z28 will be a collectors item, unless of course we give GM more money to build overpriced cars, LOL.

Sorry Man, I just had to take a shot at ya when I saw the Z28 avatar on AllFordMustangs.com. I would love to race it when I get my reverse fixed

you are missing the most fun part about owning a rear wheel drive car 0- 60 is everything. there is nothing like hooking dead from a dig and lifting the front wheels for the first 100 feet .the extra benafit is that you have smoked the awd car next to you. sounds to me like you got smoked by some awd evo

You can pretty much throw those times out the window. They don't mean much.

What do you think your buddies reaction time is? I bet it's slower then a tenth.

Take it to the track and find out what it really does. Bring back a time slip or two and maybe someone can give you some REAL constructive advise.
