How fast to have to wear a helmet at the track (cecil county)?
First off let me say my bad for not being on in a while. Anyway, now that it's summer and I'm out of class it's time to hit up the track. I'm heading down to Cecil drag way on Wednesday. I figured some of you track vets, and MD locals would know what you need to run in order to be required to wear a helmet. I heard 13's, but couldn't find anything about it on their website. I'm gonna be a little pissed off if I don't break into the mid 13's, and I'll be almost as pissed if they tell me to leave since I don't have a helmet for doing it lol. Thanks guys

I really don't have the money to go buy a helmet right now, and if I did than there would be a set of 3.73's at my door instead lol

I agree who wants to sandbag. In all reality, a helmet should be worn at all times at the track. You never know if the car ahead of you dumped crap on the track, and you just hit it doing 130mph.......

I wouldn't want to hit it doing 50 either. You are at the mercy of the track sometimes......
I agree...I've had a couple cars cross over the double lines (one hit the wall) BEHIND me at test and tunes (which is the extent of my racing ). Both times I took the hole shot and thought to myself...no better place to be than out in front in case something bad happens
And on edit: of course I also do another trick that I think drives the spectators nuts. On occasion if I am lined up against a car I now is flat out faster than I am (like a 10.5 car when I am mid 11s)...I don't go until he is out past the 60'. Not a lot of fun to watch, but hey, its better than fixing sheet metal because of a test and tune disaster.
If I read this correctly, I am really surprised that a track would even consider letting someone drive without a helmet at all. What a huge liability! Also, I have never understood open face helmets, what about your face? I know Chicks dig scars, but it not ussualy facial scars we are talking about. Borrow a friends helmet, a true friend won't mind a little bit of sweat in his helmet, heck, you have probably kissed his sister already anyway. Good luck.

all tracks are different. the smart ones follow NHRA rules, or even better. at my local track, GULFPORT DRAGWAY, EVERYBODY wears a helmet! no mater how slow i am.....

Some tracks don't even tech on T&T nights let alone make you wear a helmet. I know a particular 10 second car(not mine) that runs at our local track with no cage. My Son's V6 turbo car runs 11.0's and doesn't have a cage. That's the only time he can run it. He does wear a helmet.
