Default Dyno vs. Air/ Fuel Meter.

So as I've been trying to gather info on dyno tuning it was brought to my attention that to just go ahead and buy an wide open band a/f meter. For the price of it I can alway tune the car while being at the track. Like PL and Reggie said there is were you want to really tune instead of just paying that amount for one session on the dyno. Sounds like a smart investment.

Here is the one he had in mind:

COMP Cams: FAST™ Wide Band Air/Fuel Meter=

I would get it with the 2 sensors

Yes it is. Saying that it will be easy to set mixtures by playing with jets. It will record your a/f during a run and let you know if you are running fat or not. My car is expected to run alittle fat around (saying) 12 to 1. But we have the tuner and the time slips along with recording the weather to tune.

I think if you have the car dyno......

Get a baseline......

then it will be just a matter of reading the plugs ETC...

when you are at the track.......

it may be a good investment but i would still have the car dyno'd......

I'll keep looking into a good carb tuner on a dyno. I heard Kurgan is known for EFI tuning not carb. That tool still sounds good to me though.

Depends on the dyno owner, how well he keeps up with it. The wide band O2 sensor, has to be changed regularly. And it depends on the air meter, there's a number of them out there. Find yourself a reputable tuner with a dyno, then you know he keeps up with everything. Do your research and get a baseline, then make adjustments from there. And like Reggie said, read your plugs at the track. Thats one of the best ways, in my book is to read the plug they don't lie or give faulty readings, Mike. SCT Tuner.

Is the "Mike. SCT Tuner" another brand of o2 sensor? Otherwise I don't have any electronics. Straight old school. That one I was I was talking about was high tech!

No Mike is his name. The SCT TUNER is used on the newer mustangs. Innovate makes a good A/F wideband. I would just put it on a dyno to see where you are at. This should not cost more than 50-75 bucks. I did this when I set up my nitrous kit. I want to be safe. I know you do to. I would think as much as you got in your baby that would be best. I like my Innovate guage , I got it on Ebay for a good price. less than 200 bucks. You can buy bosh replacement O2 sensors from them also. I hear you should replace the sensor every 6 months. I am just going to keep an eye on it.

LOL.... Mike SCT Tuner.... Ha Ha!

I thought it was really expensive to hook up a car on a dyno no matter what. Putting it on there just to get the basic for around that much is also money well spent. Between the two the dyno and the meter, the car should run a little better ya think I'll look into the Innovate brand as well. Do you think the 02 sensor will still burn out quickly if I'm only taking the car to the track about 4 times a year on average of 3-4 runs per time?

Good Idea's are flowing on here....

I would not think so if that is all you run it. You may have to weld a bung in on the midpipe close up to the motor is best. That is if you have a midpipe? I am not that familiar with your yr.

Yes, I would have to weld in the bung. I was asking my buddy about the fact that I all ready have the evac. on the collector too. He was saying the the bung would be set before the evac. on the opposite side.
