Sure.....as long as its a Cleveland
A HP is not really a goal, you want to race...what is the performance goal?
Are you going to going to install a full cage in the car and climb in and out?
A 6 point with swing outs?
No bars since you want to drive it around on the street?
What about street manners? You talk about long life on the motor (what's long....some guys are happy to get 10 passes, some a full season, some 100k miles) and then about racing at the track (so that means you will want high number gearing) will you be driving it on the highway/country roads at speeds above 50 MPH? How about an overdrive
trans then? Is all you care about is straight line performance? Is turning optional with you or do you need to be able to cruise an exit ramp at 45-50?
$30k is not as much money as you think it is when it comes to building a show and go car especially without clearly set goals that you want to attain.
When I built my 65 the goals were:
11.5-11.9 in the 1/4
Able to opentrack it for fun and have respectable times
Drive it the office anytime I wanted to (it is 62 miles to my office one way)
And look decent
It took me several attempts to get it all to click but I finally got there. I was at 30k with the acquisition price of the car, minor fixer up things to replace old parts, the suspension, the brakes upgrades, and the full drivetrain.
And that was before I blew up the motor 2 more times, the
trans 3 times, slid it under a tractor trailer sideways and had to rebuild it, and blew out my rear at the strip.
