What is the easiest most reliable engine to build up to 600+hp?
hello, im thinking about building a drag car out of a 67 mustang, and I was wondering what is the easiest and most reliable engine to build up to say 600+ HP. Also, what would be a good trans to back up this HP?
i'm up for all motor builds, N/A or power adders.. and i'm really looking to keep its streetability, because it will be taken to various car shows as well. i guess there really isnt a power limit, as long as its reliable, and still can be driven. also, i only have 30k to put into the car, but i do figure that 2500 of that will have to go to body work :/

based that i would recommend a 331 or 347 stroker moter with a supercharger.....
there are several way to go......
you either buy a turnkey engine or have a motor built to your exact specs......
Is there any racing in the car's future.......

there will be racing in the cars future, as every wednesday during summer theres 1/8th mile drags accompinied with a car show. and i'll probably race it then, but what would be the longer lasting engine? Big block or supercharged small block?
Big block's don't have to work hard to get the torque but weigh more. Small blocks are high revving motors which parts are of couse spinning faster (in my opinion) prompting break down faster. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of killer small blocks that run on any given day. I guess the choice would be up to you.

Building it right from the beginning is always better than starting over to build it better because it was temporary.
93' LX hatch, 460 with mods, TH400 trans, 9" w/ 3.89 spool. Best (so far!) of 10.18 @ 131 mph with 1.39 60'
ok, so what trans would back this up well? C4, or C6?
If it is a small block 302,351 use a C4. If a big block C6 but recommend Chevy TH400. C6 require alot of HP to get going and are heavier. The TH400 has a final gear of 1 to 1 when in third.

4.6 Auto, 3.73 gears, C&L CAI, Diablo 91 octane tune, drag radials, and a saftey loop. What else do I need for a 14 second bracket car?
Right now I have a 418w small block, however, when I am out of school and have a real job, I plan on doing a project car with a 460 stroker (big block). I plan on going for 500+ CI and around 600 HP N/A, so of course my answer is biased and I suggest going with a big block as well
