Default New Camaro SS 1/4 mile times

I saw 2 brand new Camaro SS' at Atco last night. It was fairly cool, so everyone was making pretty good power for good trap speeds, but the track was a little slick, making launches a little difficult. I will say in their defense, due to traction, even my ET.'s were about 2-3 10ths off, but my trap speeds were still there. That being said, these supposed Mustang-killers with big 360+ cid engines were basically running the same times as stock 4.6 '05-up GT's.

ET's 13.8 - 14.4
Trap: 98-104 mph

My thinking is the maybe Chevy supplied the magazines with some programmed ringers to have them running 13.0-13.3 @ 110 mph.

Basically, I like the new Camaro's; they aren't really my style but they are pretty cool looking - and I like having the Big 3 rivalry thing going - but after watching them run, I was not impressed- and I call BS on the test fleet...

I like both GM products and mustangs but 6+ plus mph slower than advertised makes you think. Even if you didn't shift manually it wouldn't loose that much. How the the weather there?

I have not seen any race or try me but my neighbor has one. It is nice. The day he brought it home i was driving down the street and stopped to say hello and give his new toy a look see. Next thing I know I was in the drivers seat taking it around the block. It is smooth an nice looking but I was unimpressed because of all the hype I was expecting more. The clutch falls to the floor with a sneeze and it is a guesstamate when it grabs. I had the opportunity to smash it a couple times and it was ok. Lets just say he still doesn't want to race me yet. Overall I think it is a good car but I like my mustang.

From Car and Drivers website:

"The panel was shocked, shaken, and staunchly unanimous: This Mustang rules.
Why the low expectations? Look at the stats. Just 315 horsepower. Simple struts up front and a log axle out back. A five-speed pitted against two bolt-action sixes.
But look at the facts: At 3580 pounds, the Mustang is lightest by 300. A lively throttle reels in 60 mph nearly as quickly as the Camaro (the Mustang did have 6700 break-in miles, which may have helped), and the car pulls the highest skidpad g (0.92) by a wide margin. The Ford stops in the same distance as the megabraked Camaro (162 feet), and it returned the best fuel economy (17 mpg) despite having the shortest gear ratios of the three cars.
Explanations? Perhaps it’s because the Mustang stayed in production while the others took long sabbaticals. Ford used the intervening years well. This Mustang is the most beguiling yet.
In this company, the steering trumps—it’s fast, direct, and, though still a bit isolated, far more naturally weighted than that of the other two. Body control with the Track pack is astounding. It doesn’t pogo, doesn’t shimmy, doesn’t slump to the outside and clop its way through a corner. The ride may be firm, but nothing throws it off the slot-like path you cut through turns. And somehow that live axle deals with pitching and pocked pavement with much of the sure-footed poise of an independent setup. A Track-pack Mustang used only at the drag strip is a Mustang wasted.
The Ford is also the right size. It doesn’t devour a driveway or need to be greased into a parking space. The dash and shoulder lines are low, and the 360-degree view out is mostly unhindered. And we admit to being total suckers for the retro, sequential turn indicators.
It’s the shortest and narrowest, with a wheelbase more than five inches shorter than the Camaro’s, yet the interior measurements match or beat the Chevy’s. The back seat, which splits 50/50 and folds (all three cars have folding rear seats, though the Camaro’s don’t split), is adult-usable and even comfortable for riders up to six feet tall."

I love it!

I've seen one race over here at the track, the track is crappy and the weather isn't the best but he hit a 13.2 at 108. Not too bad, I didn't get around to asking him if it was dealer fresh but I wouldn't have doubted it. It's all in how you drive, that's what makes or breaks ANY car. If you can't drive for $h** than any car no matter how much power you have will be slow. Here's a quick vid : http://videos.streetfire.net/video/2...-14_648486.htm

I raced a SS The other night. I was not impressed at all to say the least. My mustang stock would of beat it. I would like to see a new Challenger out at the track to see how bad they can beat a Camaro. My money would be on the Challenger SRT.

If that was at Atco last week - that was the night I was there. That was his first time into the 9's - it was nice and cool - maybe 70 degrees...

Couple weeks ago I saw a stock Challenger SRT8 running at Cecil County. Running low 14's but it was hot- like in the 90's, he was on street tires and getting really slow 60' times, and he told me it was his first time trying it out on the track, so I would assume with more practice and better weather it would be better...

My assumption is all three (Camaro SS, Challenger SRT8, and Mustang GT) are very close when stock. My reason for liking mustangs better since the 80's is still the same: Less money up front + easier and cheaper to modify = more bang for the buck. Not that I dislike the others - I just have to pick a winner, and for me it's the Ford...

I chased a Challenger SRT with my blown 96 cobra, I had no problems hanging with him...at the light he was amazed that I had a V8? Didn't bother to tell him about the little 2.1 kenne bell...Mopar sucks, always has, always will...so does Chevy, wait til they come up on my stroker 427 Saleen...I'll try not to smile too much...Fo MO CO baby!

i hope this wasn't suppose to prove your point of 13.2...cause that was the hennesy camaro(meaning it has a good driver) and it ran a 13.6 with a 6 speed. all that crap about low 13's was bs by chevy to sell those tuna boats. my friend bought 1 thinking he was gonna outrun my 08 stang. we took his maro to the track to test it out ,its an auto, it ran a worst of 14.10 and a best 13.96. he was pissed to say the least, on the way home he said i'm parking this pos in the garage and not spending money on it ....hell it would take 10,000 dollars to make this thing fast. i couldn't help but laugh.
