Everybody complains when they get lousy customer service, so I thought it would be nice to share a story about some fantastic customer service.
A few weeks ago I blew my motor at the track, big time. The carnage was pretty impressive actually and I wanted to find out exactly what had caused it so there wasn't a repeat in the future.
I posted a thread and pictures on the HC50 forums because there are a lot of professional racers and engine builders over there and I figured if anybody could diagnose what went wrong, they could. I got a lot of good input and several possibilities were suggested as the cause of the failure.
I knew that Mark O'Neal, the owner of Coast High Performance was a member on that message board, so I pm'ed him asking for his opinion since I'd bought the short block from them a little over two years ago. He got back to me saying that he'd seen the thread but hadn’t known it was one of his motors. I didn't mention CHP in the thread because I wasn't trying to suggest that what had happened was their fault.
The next thing he said blew my mind. He told me he'd send someone to pick up the broken short block and they'd look at it. I'm in PA and CHP is in CA so it isn't exactly across the street. They picked it up at my house, at no expense to me.
Now this was already way more than I expected. I had bought it more than two years ago and had put 200+ passes at the track on it. We all know that racing parts generally don't have any warranty on them, let alone after more than two years.
The next communication I got from Mark was to inform me that they had determined that there was a defect in the block and they would replace it! My blown up motor was a 393, but he offered to build me a 408 as the replacement if I wanted, which I accepted.
I told him there was no hurry in getting the new short block to me since I have my car running again right now with a junk yard 351 in it. I don't want to miss any more races changing motors now, so I'll wait till the end of the season.
If anybody is looking to buy a short block, long block, rotating assembly, or anything else CHP sells, I'm here to tell you they are the most stand up company I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. The excellent reputation this company has is the number one reason I bought from them in the first place, and I can see now how they earned that reputation.
So now I'll have a new 408 to run next year and I'll keep the 351 that's in the car now as a spare motor, just like the big boys!

Truly indeed a good story. I could only hope I could get a break like that when my time came.
When are we starting a new pole??
We won't be doing any polls on the new motor's times till next year. I told Mark there was no hurry in getting the short block to me since I've already missed too many races this year, and intend to finish with the junk yard motor. I just don't want any more down time.
Besides I'll probably just be getting a handle on how to launch and what to dial with this motor when I get the other one, so if I wait till next year to change over I can hit the early season T&T's and get it dialed in before the points racing starts.
Racing a slow car is still better than not racing at all!
