Well, I've been gone the past week so I didn't get to post my results from my last track experience...
I don't have the time slips on my at the moment, but I'll try posting them later.
I ran 10 runs and iced down the intake between every 2 runs.
My best result was a 14.8 (don't remember the mph's). All night I kept running 15.5's and 14.9's. I found out that when I would launch at 4K RPM's is when I was running the 14.9's.
The one run that my car felt like it was hauling a$$ is when I missed 3rd gear...
Anyways, I need to figure out what is going on because my best time ever was a 14.7 on STREET tires!
Just as a comparison... I met a guy at the track with a '95 Cobra that he had put a stock GT engine in and was running 24# injectors (Cobra computer is tuned for 24#ers), he also had 3.27 gears. He was running 14.4's all day and I have more engine mods than him.
I'm shifting at around 4500-4800 RPM's. Should I be shifting more towards 5K-5500? My car just feels like it stops pulling at around 5K but I don't know.
PS- my 60's were 2.3's and 2.2's and I'm running 18lbs of pressure in my Mickey E/T's.

Do you still have stock gears? with the Mickey ET's i would think your 60' would be better unless your dumping the clutch and the tires are spinning. I would def shift at 5K rpms. when my 95 had a few things it still would die after 5k rpms. Later on it pulled past 6K, after a few more mods.

Yep... Stock gears (probably my worst enemy at the moment), 190K mile engine (probably getting some valve float at high RPM's), my fuel filter probably needs changed, full exhaust, GT40 intake...
I'm not dumping the clutch, I'm slipping it out real fast though. Tire spin isn't that much of a problem anymore, it's actually the opposite. If I don't rev it high enough and dump the clutch right then my engine will bog.
This is also only my second time out with the Mickey's, so I'm still getting the hang of them. But I still think I should be hitting mid 14's at least...

Don't get too discouraged feen, what are the size of your tires that you have compared to what you had before? How bout weather? That kills our cars when it's hot out.

i agree with samo......
with the new intake it sucking in more air ( hot air)
hot air will kill your performance.......
your 60' is killing you
set a goal for 1.90's for the sixty foot......
forget e/t and mph those will come if you achive your goal......

I can vouch that his tires are new too, I saw them. I think his tires are 275/50's.
Try winding it up to 5000, then 5200. When your times drop off, go back to the rpms you used for the quickest time.
275/50-15's. Someone has a good memory!
Yeah, I'm just going to have to experiment with different shift points. I'm just nervous taking a 190K engine up past 5K RPM's.

My regular street tires I believe are 245/50-16 Firestone Wide Ovals.
Weather was decent... around low 90's to high 80's.

So I should be able to pull a 1.9 sixty foot? I'm way off then.
Hopefully this Friday I'll be at the track to try it again. The 14.8 I ran was my last run of the night, so I was slowly bringing my times down.
I'm a little surprised you didn't say anything about my fantastic wing making my car too powerful Reggie. I guess I have a little too much downforce!

Well keep on doin your best practicing getting out of those first 60 ft, and look at it this way at the least your car is consistent, it wasn't too long ago that you were busting off 14.9's than followed it up with a 17 . Maybe your car is telling you something? Like it's time for gears perhaps ?

hey feen, maybe fox-body sounds like a good idea now?!?!?! : laugh: I still look cooler than you FOX guys.
o but more serious... i would run a compression test on that motor... too many miles... im sure your losing some compression
Oh I'm sure my engine doesn't perform like a 302 with my mods should, and like I said, I'm probably getting some valve float. It still makes me happy though.
Pretty soon my engine is coming out and getting rebuilt. And I have a set of GT40P heads just waiting to be put on.

Yeah, those 17's were pretty embarrasing. It's shameful taking a Mustang GT to the track and running times a v6 should be running.

Nah. I heard V6's are faster than that......
I have to ask, if you are saying that you are bogging at the line with the MT's at 18psi, what happens if you bring it up to 24psi? It is just like putting slicks on your car. They hook, and if you don't have the hp out of the gate, it will kill your momentum. Hence, the bad 60fts you are experiencing. We all drop our tire pressure to make our cars hook, but we all find the sweet spot(psi) that gives us a balance of both. I took my '01 to the track one night with slicks thinking it would perform better. Well, they sucked the life out of my car, so I had to go up in pressure in order to find the balance.....
