Well guys, I got a new fast time Friday night! Just barely but still...
My new fast time is 14.71. The bad part is that I still haven't got my 60' down yet. I ran a 14.71 with a 2.2 60'.
My main problem with my ET's was that I was shifting WAY too soon. Before this last Friday, I was always shifting around 4800 RPM, this time I was shifting around 5500 RPM.
So I'm still stuck with those horrible 60's. But I'm working on it.
I have a '97 Mercury Mountaineer that I am using as a parts car (heads, block, etc.). I'm pretty sure that the Mountaineer/Explorer came with 3.55's or 3.73's and 31 spline axles/T-lok. I've been trying to find out if the rear end is interchangeable with my rear end...
Some insight on this issue would be nice...

the mountaineer should have an 8.8 so the parts are interchangeable.....
And why were you shifting @ 5500.....
Is 5500 too high or not high enough. My redline is at 6K and I basically have a stock engine with a couple of goodies, nothing fancy (yet...).
But I was running high 14's all night. Only had one 15 second run because I spun the tires real bad AND missed 3rd gear.

and if your basing your shift points off the factory tach only god knows for sure where you are really shifting.....
I never have shifted it above 5K before. But it did get me better times.
And yeah, you are definitely right about the factory gauges. I'm planning on buying all new set of gauges when I do my engine rebuild... whenever that may be...

The whole night I was focused 99% on my take offs. I would rev to 4K and on one pass I would slip the clutch, the next I would dump the clutch, slip it fast, dump it slow. All my 60's were about the same around 2.2.
I don't know why I can't get any lower, but I really am trying.

Congrads on your new PB, better is better know matter by how much. I only improved by .02 but it was still better than what I had previously.
Reg. what should he be shifting at then if 5500 is too much? At that point is he all ready coming out of the power band? I thought SB like to rev. high.
302Feen, maybe slipping the clutch too much or not enough if the wheels are still spinning. Please don't do like I saw alot of this weekend..... just dumping the clutch. Those guys didn't get it. It starting being just all out funny.

Only one way to tell... make a series of runs but shift at 5000, then next run shift at 5200, then next run shift at 5500, and see which run got the best time. Considering the engine is stock, it has to be in that neighborhood and at least going to 5500 got better times. Next thing would be those gears, look for 14.30's then on a good day.
And is the Mountaineer the one behind the building?

Ask me why I ran "only" a 13.54.

If I had enough time and money to go to the track EVERY Friday instead of every OTHER friday, I would probably be doing a little better. But I'm starting to get the hang of things.
Yeah, the Mountaineer is the one behind the building.

Ok cool. I saw it but we were under the hood, I thought it was an Explorer... even though I know you told me it was a Mercury.
Mountaineer... Explorer....
Same car, different badges. So either way you'd be right I guess.

Good job an improvement is an improvement regardless , just letting you know a lot of those explorers/mountaineers came with 4.10 gears. Just letting ya know. I would snatch up the T-lok and gears either way.

Well, I don't want 4.10 gears. If it has 3.55's, I'll even use those until I can afford to do a gear swap with 3.73's and rebuild the rear end and t-lok.
Anything would be better than my stock gears, but 4.10's would be too much.
