Default Ended the season with a new PB

went to Numidia sunday, they had a $1000 street race,i ended up turning on the red in the 2nd round, got antsy waiting at the line for a honda with a 17.75 dial(no joke)..thats almost a 5 second headstart on my 12.99 dial..i hate racing cars like that lol

did manage a new personal best though, not by much but ill take it

r/t-- .072
60-- 1.759
330-- 5.274
1/8-- 8.225
mph- 83.27
1000-- 10.793
1/4-- 12.971
mph-- 103.44

not bad for a junkyard headed, boat anchor connvertible....

Ended the season? Does this mean you are officially calling the 2009 season to be over and getting ready to start your top secret winter project?

We usually run the 1/4 but one night they limited us to the 1/8 because the track wasn't completely dry in the shut down area. I wound up having to give more than 3 seconds to the other lane. I sat there watching him drive away and thinking "How am I going to catch him in only 1/8 mile?" Sure enough I red lighted. So yeah, I know the feeling.

Getting a PB takes some of the sting away though. Just think how you worked all year to get a 12 second time slip and next year if you get a 12 second slip you'll be pissed! Funny how that goes.

i'll tell ya what mike..as far as my "top secret" project, its only a secret to one particular guy with a 65 cobra kit car lol..

..but then again, ive been having silly thoughts lately..

..like if i sell the vert,i could probably afford to build myself a notchback with a 351 based powerplant,if ya know what i mean :

im just debating whether i want to put more money into a convertible drag car..

i'm not sure what im going to do,but if i do end up getting rid of my car,i need to get started soon!!!

Something to think about.....

thats the whole problem reggie..the weight and the twistiness(is that a word?)

i already know the car would be middle 12's if it were a hardtop and 400-500lbs lighter..then i might consider staying with my current setup a little more

mike and i weighed our cars the same day last year at the same track, mine was 3560 w/me and his was 2950ish w/o him(i dont remember exactly, just pretty sure it was 29xx)..so hes probably a little over 3100 with him

ive dropped a few lbs off that with draglites and some interior weight removal, but still think im well over 3400

theres 300-400 lbs right there, and he has a hatch..notch would be a little lighter still...

ive thought about buying a roller and swapping my stuff into it,but if i sell the vert turn-key i think i can get enuff for it to build a nice 351 motor of some sort..ive been having awesome luck at finding great deals on parts

my original plans were to go turbo on the vert, and as cool as they are,i'd rather have an all motor car..i dont know what to do lol

The thought of all motor is great......

But going fast N/A tends to lean to a radical setup.....

If you like to use the car as the occasional weekend cruiser i recommend going with a power adder.....

That is one of the reasons i'm still on the bottle.....

Ending the season a week early lol. This coming weekend there's a $2500 footbrake race Saturday and $5000 on Sunday. Going to be cold. I may enter on Saturday. I can't do much worse that last weeks fubar. I had a nice string of very consistant red lights (-.033, -.022, -.023, -.028) Can foot surgery effect a drivers perception. I do have a trick for next time out if I keep going red.

If you don't have an emotional attachment to your car like some of us do, I think selling it and going to a platform more suited to drag racing is the sensible thing to do.

As for the power plant, you know I'm partial to a bigger lower revving engine N/A for the reliability factor, but that's just me.

With what you've been able to do with that little 302 without breaking the bank, think what you'd have with a bigger motor and a lighter car. Windsor stroker in a notch, oh yeah!

were you there on sunday kazman? didnt see you if you were, not that i'd recognize you

as far as entering this week,i dont think im going to for two reasons
1. my 5spd cant even come close to being as consistent as all the auto's that are going to be there
2.for the above reason,i dont really have $100 entry fee to most likely make 3 passes and go home lol

i do have some kind of emotional attachment to the car,i've had it for 9 years this month, bought it 1 year after i got out of high school in Oct. 2000

but, that being said, ive told myself, its just a car..and im willing to let the ol girl drive off into the sunset with someone else behind the wheel to be able to make a better "race" car for myself..

i rarely ever drive it on the street just to cruise around..99% of its street time is going from my house to the gas station then to the track and back..with my lousy work schedule,i dont have much time for cruisng anymore

im confident i can build a good motor on a budget..not trying to go 9's with it(yet),but i think i'd be able to run soemwhere in the 11's,which would hold me over for now lol

Based on the above i'd keep it......

11's is a very achievable goal with a vert.......

I understand the attachment to a car......

probably why i still have the hatch instead of a notch.......

no i meant 11's with the new car..although my original plans were a turbo for the vert, which im sure would put me in the 11's as well

it all depends on how much $$ i could get for my car..i have a number i'd like in my head, but then again,im biased cuz i know how much time/effort i put into the vert..

I was turning all the red light on down at Maple Grove. I paid $90 in entry fees for a little National Dragster decal. lol. I guess I don't have to tell ya how hard it is to race a stick shift. Been down that road for 3 years then converted to a turbo400 and never looked back. Found lots of new ways to lose other that blaming the stick. Weather looks really bad for the weekend. I may join you in calling it the end of the season.

Heres some advice. When you get a split that big watch the other car's light. You should have some idea of what kind of a light he cut. You have plenty of time to focus back on your bulb after he leaves. This cuts down on the amount of time you have to consintrate on your bulb. If he went red try for a .000, if he was late make sure you cut a consertive green, and if you feel he hit it that you do the same. I'm usually on the other side of the split. I dialed 14.11 to his 9.2x. I went red and I know he saw it. He went for it and cut a .000. If the slower car is red there is no issue if you as the faster car redlights. That reaction got him a bye run for the next round (worth 2 wins).
