Question What could i do to get in the 14's?

When i ran my mustang recently my times were 15.40's throught he night and i'm trying to get it into the 14's.

Reaction 1.040

I was sleeping at the light

I1. not recorded
I2:6.481
I3:9.911
Mph (I3)71.183mpg
I4:12.8
E.T.15.443 @88.907mph

here are my mods
66'289 All new suspension/interior
4 speed top loader w/ worn heavy clutch
3.55 rear end 9' pozi
Worn P215/60R14'
Edelbrock intake
edelbrock 650 4 barrel carb vac secondary
electronic ignition
flamethrowercoil
new petronix wires/plug
conton race pan with windage tray
4 core radiator

The car seems to be topping out really early. I was taking all sorts of cars of the line for a second or so but my car was topped out in 4th about 3/4 down the track. Ohh and the carb was screwd, it was idiling at about 1k rpm since it had been running off and the car was to low on oil and was clicking at the end of track because i didnt know it had dumped the oil on the way to the track
So do you think a tune up will do it to get me into the 14's.. I want to get some high 14's before i start in on the 351w build up. So what should i do to get it there, i'm want to do it cheaply

Things to check

1. Timing advance all across the RPMs, you could be loosing timing on top, make sure the mechanical or vaccum advance is working (depending on your distributor)

2. By all means tune it up. Most importantly is the CARB, are you running rich? lean? you might need to change jets.

3. Get some WIDE and sticky rear tires, 215s will hurt traction big time.

4. Change the clutch.

ya i'm trying to keep it as cheap as possible. I would really hope that the tune up will help but 4/10 is a lot to loose without investing any real money.

Idropped 4/10 by taking my sway bar off and cleaning out my trunk., But only gained 2/10 when i went from a 3.27 gear to a 3.73. Good luck

289's like rpm's! They are hard to explode. I would run 4.10's, open exhaust, change carb to 600, victor jr. intake, launch hard at around 5000 with slicks and above all set timing to about 38 degrees at full timing at 3500 rpm and make sure everything is working correctly and a great tune and you should be in the 13's!
