Sorry its not an FE but my father has a 1962 galexy 500xl with a
406 super HP he ordered new in 62. It is black with nugget gold int.
Lots of torque and brute power now we have a 406 +.030 12.5
comp 427 med riser set up with 2-4 set up 4-speed 4.30 gears
and a detroit locker.
Mine tipped the scales at 3250 with driver, now minus 68 pounds. The car was mini-tubbed, has Chris Alston ladder bars, and Koni coil overs. 10/90 Comp Eng. shocks on the front. The trans. is a JPT full roller C4 with transbrake, B&M Pro Ratchet shifter. I launch the car on a limiter that holds it at 4800 RPM. When I release the T/B it flashes to 6600 . (Playback tach) and the shift lite is set at 7400 (it actually shifts at 7800 by the playback). The converter is an S5 series from http://www.tcsperformance.com/ppdnew/s5s4.html
The motor made peak power at 7400 RPM (618) and peak torque was pretty much a flat line from 5400-6400 (456). When I switched to the N2O cam I lost about 55 ft/lbs of torque, but figured the nitrous would make up for it. It did. 1.360 60 foot. The heads were prepped by TEA, 2.05x1.64 Ferrea's, 5 angle, triple springs. They heads were then shipped to Wilson Manifolds in Florida who did the S. Victor. 371 CFM per port. all within 1 per cent of each other. The car was NHRA certified in April for sub tens, and I got my S/C, S/G license a few years ago.
My car went 10:86 @ 125mph. It's a 93 coupe that I drive 70 miles
to the track. It's a stock shortblock with: edelbrock heads (190's) and
performer RPM intake, Vortech S-trim, 30lb injetors w/FMU, Anderson
B-31 camshaft, shorty headers and H-pipe, Stock T-5, and 3:73 gears
in a detroit locker. The car weights 3170lbs with me in it. I hope to
get that weight down to 3000lbs this month. I think the car has a
10:69 in it.
10s on the Bone stock longblock. Currently running 11s on pump gas & 12 psi. I'm trying to run 10s on pump gas and 9s on race next spring.

How say's Ford Racing ever died?
Ron,
How did you do with the weight and did you do any other improvements over the winter? Im waiting for my new pistons to put my engine back together and my new clutch disk. I decided to stay with the 5 speed tremec.
Scott
Did real well. I scraped all the tar like sound deadening material of the floor, removed the wipers, motor, all the brackets, removed the rest of the heater stuff and motor, took out the entire old wiring harness, from headlight to tail light, and replaced it with only the wiring I needed. The brackets behind the head light buckets, sun visors, the glove box door (5 pounds of pot metal), and took off the old drum set up on the front, 32 pounds per side, and replaced it with the Wilwoods, 14.6 pounds per side. Roughly 100 pounds total. Then I installed a new B&M Pro Ratchet, with a Shifnoid electric shifter, a new MSD Digital Programmable 7 and the new coil they use with it. I pulled out all my old stand alone switches, and went to a Auto Rod Controls fused switch panel, that I mounted on the front "halo" bar. The two connectors that go through the firewall, one 6 and one 8 pin, I now have (2) 8 pins. I cut them off leaving pig tails, and then soldered all new wiring in. So now all my "engine" stuff goes through the one most inboard, and the rest through the other. If I ever have to pull the motor, all you do is unplug one connector, and your'e done.
Man that is a lot of typing...
So when will you be ready to "rock and roll"?
Oh, and this 96TT, 9.01 at 174? That has to be about 25 MPH faster then anyone I have ever seen run low 9's. Something doesn't jive. When I ran at Frank Hawleys my 1st pass was a 9.30 at 145 then a 9.09 at 150...but 174 at 9.01?
Ron,
That is a lot of mph for the et, the only thing i can come up with is he cant be hooking up to good or it is a misprint. I also got the msn web page.
I took the wiring harness out also and i filled the connector holes in the fiewall. I ran my wiring for my lights and extras in the fender well with clips to the fender bolts. This hid them and cleaned up the engine compartment. I then drilled a hole through the firewall at the bellhousing area and ran the wires under the super victor for the engine.
I hope i will be ready by the end of march. I upped the comp. to 14.2 and changed to a bennett custom roller. I also had my heads reworked to flow 320 on the intake and 245 on the ex. The intake was fully ported. If i have the time pro-systems is going to do my carb. Should be around 725 hp on the motor. When i get the new clutch set up i should be around 9.70 at 142
Scott
Was curious if you ran the car without the "supersucker" and then with. Got a buddy who is wanting to give it try, and maybe I can give him some prelim. data on yours? 9.70 would be a great gain, if memory serves you were in the low 10's last year? I hear nothing but good stuff baout pro-systems. Spendy stuff, but if it works, its worth it. And went back and took another look at the car. Still awesome. Would like to see it make some passes. Did you get certified yet on the chassis? I'm old I forget things
Ron,
It will cost betwean 350 and 450 to do my carb. Bennett claims its worth it. No i did not run the car without the super sucker. I asked jon bennett about it and he claims they really work even with nitrous and all the testing i have bin reading on the dyno they increased hp. No i still didnt get certified. The track i run at on friday nights is IHRA and i dont need to be cert. until 9.50. (www.beaverspringsdragway.com) They run all streat legal cars on friday nights with a quick 8 this is the most fun i ever had racing. If you check out the site throughout the year you will see pictures and news and they have a 100 mph club with the 10 fastest streat legal cars getting jackets from the garage club, there site is accesable off of this site also. I would like to get cert. so i could run at maple grove for the motorsports nationals.
