I would suggest you stage "shallow", which means you turn on the top bulb, and then slowly roll in to turn on the second bulb. Then leave on the last amber as the tree comes down.
The faster your car re-acts the longet you need to wait of course. A 300 HP street car react much differently then a 750 HP race car. If he left on the last amber, he would red lite every time, because his car leaves harder, or what they call a better roll out. BTW, most people think the timer starts when you cross a beam. You don't. Your front wheel actually blocks a beam, and when you "roll out" it reconeects and starts the timer.
