Default help a noob please

well....as the title says...im a noob, when it comes to cars. Ive been trying to read tons of info about cars, but compared to what you guys know, I'll sound like an 8 year old. Anyways, I dont have a ford mustang yet, and that was my question, what make/model should i get? I did some research and saw the late 60's/early 70's ones had huge a$$ engines...lots of HP...and the other ones i was lookin at are 87-92, they all had 225 HP 5.0 engines. I was also considering anywhere from 94-98 as they had 225-305 HP 5.0/4.6L engines, but I was wondering if they were out of my price range. I am 16 (a high school student) so I obviously dont have tons of cash laying around (and im not from a rich family...like the kids who have ricer cars their parents bought em ) but I was looking on spending around $5000 for the car alone (6000 MAX...but i wanna try not to go there). Then I was gonna spend around $2000 a bit later for mods. From what i DO know...heres what i wanted to do:
exhaust/intake/headers-about $1000
underdrive pulleys-about $200-300
flywheel-?
Higher gear ratios-?
Short throw shifter-about $200
I dont know if those are the right prices or anything...someone correct me if im wrong. I've heard about boring, stroking, etc...but i have no idea what they are...or how much it costs (someone help me on that?). I also dont know anything about if ill need new brakes or suspension or other stuff like that. So...yea...id appreciate any help/input from you guys. Thanks!

Lol yea too far for me too...looks really nice tho. Also...after reading my thread starter 1st post...I was wondering about the after market...i dunno if its the same for all years of mustangs or what...and also i was talkin to someone who said a newer 2000 mustang or something like that would be good cause of all the computerized stuff (fuel injection, etc), and i dunno for sure but the comp stuff could probably be programmed for better performance...? Anyways...that's a LOT of questions lol...could someone with really extensive knowledge on a very wide variety of mustangs (cause im lookin at way different, spread out year spans). Thanks for any help (regarding this reply AND the thread starter please )

Well I got mine for about 1800 you can find a 87 to 93 gt in good shape for about 4000 I would assume atleast thats the going price around where I live... Just a quick note "if you plan on dragging this car make sure its not your daily driver " They tend to need fixed alot

A fox body is a great choice. 87 to 93 models are plentiful and can be bought up for good deals pretty easily. I reccomend a mass air car 89-92lx.
#1 RULE make sure what your goal is with the car first.
Is it going to be my everyday car?
Do I want to race it?
How fast should I make it?
Do I want to win a show with my car?
Can I sacrafice gas mileage for performance?
If I break it is there anything else I can drive until it's fixed?
Answer all these question to help decide how to invest your money wisely on the car and mods.

You're not alone
at least from when you posted that in July 2004.
You can get any make/model that you like, or that has a decent gas mileage and all that stuff. You can always customize it too, i'm thinking about that when I get a mustang.
