Your 1/8 mile times are real close to mine. I think your 60 foot could be better. I never messed with the tire pressure and consistantly get 2.1k 60 foot times. I usually lauch between 1500 and 2000 rpm. I've even tryed power braking it to really heat the tires, but that makes it worse. I just do about a 4500 rpm drop (dry) and ride it a second or two. Here are my current mods:
97 GT 5 speed, UPR adjustable clutch cable and quadrant, Pro 5.0 shifter, FRPP 3:73 gears, BBK uderdrives, CAi, 75 mm TB, Accel coil packs, 300+ wires, bosch platinum +4 plugs, stock timing and tune, BFG comp ta 245/45/17 on 17 by 9 chrome cobra Rs. What are you launching your car at? You should try my method, or you can ride the clutch out with a higher rpm launch. Good luck, BTW when its cool I have run a
9.476 at 74.02 mph with a 2.108 60 foot, but my reaction was only a .726

Yeah I need to work on my 60'. My launches are listed above each run: 2000, 2200 & 2500rpm respectivly. I don't do big burnouts with the street tires, just enough to dry them off from the water box.

I also taped the runs and it seems my launch at 2200rpm worked the best. I don't really have a traction problem with the heavy wheels, which is what I'm thinking is killing my 60' and my mph, (half a dozen one, six the other).. I wish I had enough tread left on my stockers to run them.

Is there anyway to drive around the water box at the track you go too? If so screw the water thats for slicks and drag radials.

No, they put it down right across the entrance. And they spray for every car. They only leave enough dry for the bikes to go by on the side

Dry the tires after the waterbox if you can't avoid it. No big smoky burnouts. Make sure you do your burnout after the water box about one full revolution of the tires in front of the waterbox at least(You would not believe how many people do their burnouts in the water)(retarded on street tires especially). You are losing alot in the first 60ft.
Shallow stage to ive yourself some rollout it will improve your ET. Launch with the clutch almost engaged. Feel where the clutch catches and the car starts to move slip it during launch just a little to control wheelspin.

Your tires should have the reccommended tire pressure about 32psi in back. You want the largest contact patch you can get.
All it takes is some bangin' of the gears and some practice.
Good luck!
You'll run your 14.6 with ease

So I was back at the track on the 24th. Did a little better but not quite enough yet.

I run 30psi on the street, so I dropped the rears to 28psi and all I got was wheel spin...15.683 seconds worth.

R/T - 0.593
60' - 2.377
MPH1 - 69.88
660' - 10.246
MPH2 - 91.09
1320' - 15.683

After this run, I met up with the guy I lined up against back in the pits. He asked what I ran, so I told him. I must have sounded like some ricer making excuses telling him that I had no traction and I normally run in the 14's, cause he kinda laughed and walked away.

Next run I dropped my rear pressure to 22psi and I lined up against the same guy again, what are the chances, redemption...I ran a 14.805 to his 14.839...at least he knows I wasn't full of it.

R/T - 0.738
60' - 2.166
MPH1 - 73.17
660' - 9.526
MPH2 - 94.14
1320' - 14.805

Based on my experience I believe dropping the rear pressure, even on street tires is necessary. Then I did one more run.

R/T - 0.607
60' - 2.143
MPH1 - 73.77
660' - 9.486
MPH2 - 94.34
1320' - 14.737 <--Best to date - not great - but still my best.

I think the car has more in it I just need more practice. This weekend is the last weekend the track will be open so I hope to beat these times. I suspect the UDP's had a lot to do with dropping my et by 0.11 over my previous best.

I had a friend tape the runs and it seems like I'm loosing a lot near the end of the track. I've been shifting at around 4400rpm to keep in my suspected torque band early in the track. I suspect I should be running 3rd up closer to 5000rpm, any thoughs?

Did you say you are shifting at 4400rpms? OMG dude run it a little higher, I would say about 5200, but you just need to play with it a little to see what works best with your combo.

Congrats on showing the guy what you and your car were made of. That will teach him to walk away and snicker at you under his breath.

The 32 psi is hard to get used to but it worked the best for me. Have you slipped the clutch on launch or are you just dropping it and letting it rip all at once? You mentioned upwards of 2000 rpm on launches too. That seems a little high on street tires, but do what makes you comfortable.

Did you try to shallow stage yet? It will help the ET if that is all your after.

You said UDP's excuse me but what is that? I'm not familiar with the abbreviation. Sorry.

Remember just practice and patience is all it will take.
Good Luck!

Yeah I was thinking I'm running a little short. Thanks for your tips BTW. I'm back at the track tonite so if it's dead like last weekend maybe I can get in 4 or 5 runs to try some different stuff. I think I'll run her up to 5200 like you said. I'm after the best et I can get but I'm trying to get there by dropping my 60'.

I pretty much just drop the clutch at launch. With my big heavy back wheels and tires it spins about one rotation then ****'s off. Our track has exceptional traction. There is a guy out there regularly with a '97 Cobra and he runs 30psi in his rears without any problems. I think if I launched from say 1000-1500 I could run closer to 30psi in the rears but my car is a bit of a dog that low and it might kill my 60'. I really want to get some drag radials of some sort so I can launch around 3000.

I try to shallow stage everytime, thats probably what helped my mph.

UDP's are underdrive pullies. I didn't notice any SOTP (seat of the pants) gains but the track never lies. Every tenth counts. And I do have charging problems at idle. Everyone says who idles in a mustang anyway, thats what I thought till I got to my first red light.

Hey nice improvement on your times. I think you should try to shift higher too, maybe 5000 rpm or so. What does a 94 GT redline at anyway. Maybe you could bump the timing a degree or too also. I've heard of people running much more than 12*. Good luck! :thumbup I noticed my volt meter dropped after I installed my BBK underdrives also. It hasn't hurt charging though. I could feel a difference in power with them being my first mod.

Did my first run just as I normally do (2000rpm launch) only I ran it up to 5000rpm. Ran a 14.734 with a 2.2xx 60' (forgot my timeslips at home so I don't have exact numbers).

As I was sitting in the staging lanes for my next run I was thinking about what wv2bigdaddygt01 said about 2000 seems a little high to launch on street tires. So I dropped my launch rpm down to 1500 and ran all the gears to 5000rpm. I ran a 14.495 @ 95.xx with a 2.189 60'.

I had one more run and ran like my second run but had a little spin at the line, ran 14.53x @ 95.95.

Started the year with 15.30 @ 91, ended the year with a 14.49 @ 95 (with the addition of 3:73's & UDP's)

Practice is key!!

You might be doing this already but with a street car you can leave on yellow and you wont red light. Keep going and you will keep getting faster. When I ran street tires I dropped my pressure to 18 psi and never had a problem Good luck!

I hadn't been on in quite some time Flintstone, but congrats on the times and you're right practice is the key. Good luck this spring when the track opens back up man. :thumbsup

Exactly you want the largest contact patch in the back, and the smallest in the front. He had the right idea with the air pressures. I was hitting 2.2 60's on little 215 street tires. Now I am hitting 2.1 60 ft times on 245's with about 20 psi in them.

Flintstone: The 1/4 mile times you posted are good. I was running 14.9 @ 94mph on the old tires. My best to date all motor was 14.6 @ 95 mph and 14.1 @ 102 mph on nitrous. That was with the skinny-dick 215's. I had the mph with the nitrous, but couldn't hook up. That mph is good for about a 13.3-13.4

Also, I would like to address the shift point issue. bigdaddygt is right, anything in the 4K range is too low for the 5.0. I gained a tenth by moving my shift point from 5K to 5,500. Amazing what a little rpm will do for ya. I shift at about 5,500-5,600 consistently thanks to a Proform adj. shift light. I shifted at 6K on nitrous.

A little practice and you'll get it down some more. I re-geared my car and played with the shift points a little bit and am now running the same 1/8 mile time all-motor with street tires as I used to with nitrous and slicks. Git-R.Done!
