Wink First time and a Grudge match up

Okay..I have done about as many mods as I would like and now its time to goto the track. It's Jegs day tomorrow and I am going to run my car for the first time to see what it can do. I have street tires that came with the car when I bought it and the tread is worn and it is time for a new set so I am going to run the street tires tomorrow (Sunday). Here is the kicker. My Father-in-Law in his Buick Park Avenue (super charged) is going to be in the other lane. He has raced a couple times before but I am a Newby at this. ADVICE PLEASE!!!! I have read and I am going to make sure my tire presure is 40 in the front and 24 in the rear. Do I need to turn the traction control off? I dont want to sit and spin. I really have to Kick his butt tomorrow!!! Give me a recipe for success. I am really excited just to see what my car will do with the mods that I have done..... Thanks in advance for those of you who respond!!!

I can tell from your gallery that you have a 00 Gt vert, is it a 5 speed or auto? If its a 5 speed do a dry burnout. Drop the clutch about 4500 rpm and ride it a few seconds. Over heating street tires will result in slower times. For a good reaction time you want to leave on the last orange light, believe me don't wait till you see the green, by the time your car moves it will be green. I'd launch at between 1500 and 2000 rpm. when the tires hook, or are almost hooked, nail it and bang second. By this time your father in law will have his foot through the grill trying to catch you! I have consistant 2.1 60 foot times with fairly worn BFG Comp TA's. Good luck, and when in doubt, drive it like you stole it!

I think you should be able to take him . Just stay calm in the staging lanes . You'll be pretty nervous so just try to keep it in check and you'll be fine . I think you'll take him . Good luck and have fun . Let us know how it turns out for ya

I would say off. Traction control applies the brakes. You want to spin them out of the hole a little. With the traction control on you'll just bog the motor down. Are you running a 1/8 or 1/4 mile? Anyway be sure to post on what happened. :thumbup

Yeah , leave the traction control off . And I doubt you'll need fourth . Maybe , but doubtful .

My 97 GT falls on its face over 5300 rpm well short of the 6000 rpm rev limit. I guess you just have to feel it, but don't let it hit the rev limiter. Shift a little before the rpm you want to shift at. I think you will need 4th you will be over 100 mph when you finish. Dude I'm almost excited as you are!!

Talking WhoooooHoooooooo

OH MY Goodness...I have never had soooooo much fun!!!! You are not going to believe my times... well a couple of them you will....lol.... Well I ran 4 times... Two time trials and then two Dial ins. I got better each time and it was a blast!!! Here we go....12:50 pm Time trial was 14.69 @ 88.35mph with a reaction time of .162 It was HOT out at 12:50 it was probly 85 degrees and BTW I kicked my father-in-laws ass!!! Okay The second run I spun alot but here it is: at 3:42pm Time trial was 14.39 @ 96.71mph Reaction time sucked at .439 and it was proby 90 degrees outside by now. Okay so I dialed in at 14.4 for the First race at 7:05pm it had cooled off to about 75 degrees and I knew I should have redialed because an accident on the track delayed things. But anyhow my opponent red lighted at -.054 and I red lighted at -.013 and so it gave the win to me but i still ran great at a 14.04 @ 96.27mph. I redialed to 14.1 and got ready for the second race which happened at 7:54pm. my best start yet at .024 reaction time but I was just toooo fast!!! at 13.917 @ 99.89mph. my opponent hit his dial in so I lost but I was happy that i got under 14!!! I used your formula Dollarbill and it worked really well.Well this is getting to be a book and there is alot more to tell but you are proby tired of reading. It was GREAT and I Kicked his BUTT!!!!
