Question 96 mustang gt questions

Okay, sorry to bother you but here is my situation... I have had nothing but Trans-Am's and Camaro's in the past, but one day while looking for a car I came across this nice looking 96 mustang GT and next thing you know I bought it. I have to say I am liking it more and more, (except that it is an auto... but shhh... that's something I try to keep secret.) So I am wondering what kind of 1/4 mile it is supposed to do, and also the 0-60 if anyone knows. Since it is an auto I would guess the 1/4 time is slower than the manual but im not sure...if anyone knows the case on that i'd like to know, and if it is slower, by how much? Anyways here are the current mod's... I havn't had it too long so it's not too much...yet...but I thought I'd add that info incase it make's much of a difference on the approx times:
96 mustang gt 4.6L sohc
-true-dual 2 1/4 inch pipes w no muffler, and dual exhaust dumps after the first cat on each side (fyi the stock set up had 2 cats and one resinator on each side.)
-k&n filter and cobra hood w/ custom working ram air.
-fatty rear tires from 235's to 285's on the stock 17's and they are also quite a bit taller.
-upgraded 8mm wires and plugs.
I beleive that's all so far, but I have purchased, not installed yet 3.73 gears, chip, and tach. One other big question I had was about the exhaust. First I just had the muffler removed to add some sound as it was just too quiet stock, then my buddy talked me into doing those exhaust dumps/cut-outs which I have to say make's it sound like it's 500+hp, but unless I am crazy it now seems to have lost a ton off the line, and if that is the case it must be from loss of back pressure? Wouldn't that mean loss of low-end gain of top-end? And if that is the case would that help or hurt my 1/4 time?
Anyways that's it for now, sorry for all the questions, I hope someone can help. I have to say, I never would have thought it possible but I think that I am a FORD MAN now . lol. I have just never enjoyed a car as much as this. The women love it, more that any gm I ever owned, even my 01 SS camaro. It's been very reliable so far after 6k miles and the gas is definately better. I seem to have a far larger variety of mod's, and last but not least after my 1st mustang convention/show I have to mention how helpfull other owner's have been. All around I am pleased...
Thanks!!!
Mark

your near stock 96 gt should pull lower 15s. now put those gears on and you might hit 14s. i know, its not as fast as your '01 ss. but for little money it can be. that open exhaust is no good. go with a full exhaust. offroad h or x pipe if you can go with no cats. and a good catback system. im going with slp this week. dynomaw, borla, bassani, dynomax are all good exhaust companies. you are right, too. there are far more companies and products available for the stangs than there are for the f bodies. do you have a pic of that cobra hood/ram air set up you have? i have a 98 cobra and i'dlike to see that setup. welcome to the ford family! stick around dont go back to those damn bowties.

I'll try to get you a pic of my ram-air tomorrow badass98, why do you say the dumps are a problem? Hey wayne, where did you go to get that done, and what is the approx price on that?
thanks for your time to respond, I greatly appreciate it.

the dumps are not street legal. just go with a legal catback. it'll stop you from getting pulled over everyday. not to mention it is annoying after about 5 minutes. do you even have 02 sensors.

true, its not legal, but I was told that x pipes are not legal in californial either. Yes I still have 02 censors. and I have one cat before the dump on each side. I did not remove the old exhaust system, I removed a section of pipe on each side after the 1st cat before the 2nd cat and resinator and replaced it with kind of a y pipe dezine, so only 70-80% is going out the dumps and the rest still goes throgh the full system. The reason I did that was I wanted the sound (it is a bit overboard sometimes,) and I don't really have the cash to buy an expensive cat back system. If there was a way to get the rumble I really like for cheap I would do it, used maybe? I dunno. I just thought it sounded too wussy with stock exhaust, and even after removing the muffler with it just going throught the stock set up (4cats 2 resignators,) it only sounded good when I got on it, at idle it wasn't enough for me, but you are right, I just drove for 5 hours with the dumps and it was too much... maybe ill make them capable...

if all you want is a cheap loud exhaust, then just go buy some flowmaster 2 chambers and have them welded in.should cost ya about $150 max.but if you want it more for the performance, then buy a cat.back system.

With a fully stock set-up add on those flowmaster 2 chambers will it really be all that loud? I wouldn't think It could be louder than it was w/o a muffler, and as I said, when I punched it it was cool, but even with no muffler at idle it was still too weak for me. Maybe I'm just trying to stretch a dollar too far...
thank's for takin the time to share your opinion, I appreciate it.

adding the flows wont make it extremely loud. but it'll definitely be loud. its a different kind of loud than with no mufflers (does that make sense). my 97 gt had stock exhaust with flows. and it was pretty friggin loud. definitely drew a lot of attention. and downshiftin when coming to a stop. they burbled real nice. the flows are a cheap alternative for ya. if ya got about $400 for exhaust, go wuth a SLP cat.back kit. its VERY loud!
