Default Big vs Small

Hi all. My first post here. I´ve been racing my 65 T-bird for fun a couple of seasons (gears, nitrous, etc: 1/8 at 8,7) and been planning to sell the car for some time now to favor a lighter chassis for easier go-fast action. A fox body Mustang seems like the logical to to start with. -Cheap and plentiful.

I´d like to ask you opinions for a limited budget for best ET´s. A very good engine option i´ve been lurking at is the Fordracing 550 Hp 466. That´s a lot of readily available HP and torque for $5,895. But the set-up will be heavy with a C6, and all this weigt will be added to the front, where it´s least needed. Even with slicks (not very wide ones) there will be traction issues and the ET´s will maybe be not as the power would indicate. Also to set up the C6 and the rearend for this power would add to the budget.

If i´d settle for a smallblock on a similar budget (from the same supplier), i could get a 400Hp 342 for $5,475 OR a standarstroke 351 rated at 360Hp for $5,495. The smallblocks would most likely take a Fox to low 12´s with a stick. The total cost would be less than for a BB since the tranny and rear end would be cheaper to keep together. And the lighter nose with better traction would give more consequent launches.

Now what experience do you guys have in real life from thoughts like mine? What would you suggest based on your experience and knowlege?

Thanks for any input.

Ps. Why i´m looking at complete engine packages is because all machining work costs a fortune here in Sweden.

I think there are better options out there, check http://www.dssracing.com/

Check their longblocks, most appealing would be a 408 stroker, there are several head choices, all capable of 500HP +.

Default Nice packages

Thanks for the hint. I´ve been lurking at some other places and didn´t know of ddsracing yet. They seem to have some rigid block configurations and i´m happy to see the AFR head options for the longblocks. Fordracing has more complete packages for the value of money but seems like these DDS engines will hold better for abuse.

Buying a 408W longblock with AFR180´s at DDS would already cost a couple of hundred more than the Fordracing 466cui/550Hp. The Fordracing includes intake, distributor, balancer and a waterpump while the DDS is delivered without them.

So, any thoughts of how much SB power is needed for the same performance (on the same car) as a 550 Hp 466 would give? Concidering the lighter engine-tranny and better weight distribution for rear wheels...
