Default How much psi to have in the tires before hitting the track

Okay i do not have a Mustang, but my friend does. He has a 2003 4.6l DOHC March 1. He wanted me to ask for him on the forums how much pressure to put in his back tires and front to run on the drag track? Thanks

From my personnal experience I pump the fronts up to around 40psi and run the rears at 22psi (for street tires). A lot of people say leave the rears at 30psi or whatever you run on the street but I found I'd just spin through 1st & 2nd and have really high 60' times.

It's trial and error, every track is different and track prep is different every time. It also depends on how you launch IMO (4500rpm clutch feather or a 1500rpm dump). Pick a starting point and work from there. If he is using street radials make sure he doesn't do big burnouts and get them hot, it just makes things worse. Just do a small burnout to clean any crap off the tires. Good luck.

I agree with Flintstone, don't do a huge burnout because the tires will get too hot to grip well. I always leave the tire pressure alone and have been a best of 2.08 in the 60'. I just drop it between 1500 and 2000 rpm and when it starts to grip I lay the pedal down. It takes practice, but its fun as hell trying to get it right.

I personally run 12 psi in the rear for the first two passes then check again..Then i will lower it to 11 psi....But never any lower...I run MT 26 x 8.5 slicks on weld wheels..
