Default 96 4.6L 2V Question

I have a 96 4.6L 2V (5 Speed) and with all the modifications I have made it seems as if it has not make much of a difference.

The only mod that I have installed I can personally say I felt an increase in power with, was the MAC Cold Air Return.

I installed under pulleys that I feel was a waste of time and money.

H-pipe with no Cats and flow-master mufflers (Well, They Sound Nice!)…

Now here is the biggest disappointment!
Changed my rear gears from 2.75 to 3.73 and lost almost a second and a half in the ¼ mile. “Why”

Or should I ask, what should I be able to run in the ¼ mile with this stock vs. the above modification?

Where am I going wrong???

A DISAPPOINTED MUSTANG OWNER!

Gee, it shoudn't have slwed you down, that' for sure. What didyou run? Yo should have picked up about 2-3 tenths if anything. How bad was the wheel spin coming out of the hole?

Pulleys, O/R H and gears are all proven mods. Sounds to me like there is something wrong with the car or the driver. With those mods and a good driver you should be in the14.4 - 13.9 range. Bone stock with a good driver you would be in the 14.8-14.5 range.

What are you 60 foots before and after? My guess is that your spinning or bogging really bad. Also when was the last time you went through the car for a tune up, replace fuel filter, plugs, cleaned air filter, etc...

Mustang 4.6L never came with 2.75's. Not manuals atleast. I had a 97 GT and that had 3.23's.

yeah i dont think 96's-'98's had 2.73's.

I beleive 3.23's is correct. I ran a 15.0 consistantly bone stock with a horrible 60' time. Hopefully i can get better traction this time around when i go to the track.

I now have pullies, Mac 2.5, mac cold air, brand new plugs wires, tri syth mobil 1 oil, the spec stange II clutch, double hook quadrant. These are a few of my mods.

Could you provide us with some more information.

1. Did you do the install?
2. Did you install something prier to or right at the same time as the gears?
3. Does the car seem like it is running right?

Any detailed information would help.

I believe he was reffering to 2:73's. And yes, the '96-'98 did have the 2:73's, the 3:23's were the optional gear.

Yes, 2.73 are what I ment to say!

I did all the installs other then the gears, (I have been working on cars for the last 25 years so most of this is not new other then the 4.6L engines)

I have not installed any mods in the last three months other then gears

The car seem to be running great, No smoke, No Missing, does not stall out (Super For 90,000 miles)

It was casted right on the ring gear (2.73), plus I had a local Ford dealership cross reference the tag number bolted to the rear's cover.

! Now Can We Please Get Back To Where Have I Gone Wrong ?

96-98 5-speeds had 2.73s standard. I'm running them in my car, axle code M.

Z is 3.08s, which were optional on the 5-speed and standard on the auto.
