Default I want to see 13's, Tell me how

I have a 91 GT, almost bone stock. All i have is BBK intake, BBK shorty headers, and BBK X-pipe with 2 chamber flows.

what can i do on a tight budget to get the car into the high 13's. Unfortunately I'm running an AOD tranny that feels like it has a lot of life left in it. ( i planned on maybe converting to a 5-speed when it went out, but this won't happen anytime soon ) The car has 114,00 miles and has been very well maintained, so i don't fear beefing up the engine.

Some of my friends recommend a shift kit to me. Other say go for the heads/cams/rockers combo, but i don't have that much money. I want to gain horsepower without squeezing NOS. Maybe there is a good deal on a heads package to really get my car going. Anyone have advice?

Its kind of hard to say on a tight budget you want speed... Speed costs money... You got the gears, I say Heads, Intake and Cam would be the way to go...

I haven't got the gears or the springs in yet. I'm getting a promotion at work soon. Then I'll have some real money to play with. What would i expect to pay for a heads/intake/cam combo....properly installed

you're having them installed?
figure 1300 for the heads, 200 for the cam 200 for the intake, so 1700 parts, and labor, 2100-2200?

make that $400 for an intake, and with that many miles on the engine, you will need new rings too....so the engine should be rebuilt.....

Ok, 13s' without heads or cam?....underdrivepulleys,a/c removal,3:73's,65MM throttlebody,75MM MAS,24LBS injectors, long tube headers,190lph fuel pump - with a 5spd would def get you 13's...i dunno about your tranny...maybe those mods + shiftkit....it all cost money....heads and cam are by far the most expensive + install. next to like a blower turbo etc.

1) thats too fast to assume you need a rebuild. dont fret TmBlackFlag. here are some questions for you, is there any knocking noise? are you burning oil? (blue smoke out of tailpipes) a good way to test all of this is to do a compression test. all you do is get this adapter that screws into the spark plug hole which has a guage at the end of it. its a fairly cheap tool from autozone if you have good compression with no knocking, you'll be fine, just take care of your engine, change oil every 2k with that many miles. you'll be set. or if you want, you can throw rings and bearings at your shortblock, which is what im gonna do in spring, since i got 123,xxx on mine but with good compression. a big negative is if you want speed, and you dont know how to work on your own engine, its gonna cost you alot for installation. hope everything works out for you.

2) if you want a 13 second car, your pretty much almost there. get those gears in, with your open exhaust, make sure your car is tuned up (plugs, wires, cap rotor etc. etc. ) , topped of with the lighter body style you got, you might get there with slicks and a good launch.

3) dont worry about throttle body , MAF (clean yours) , injectors etc. etc. good rule of thumb is dont worry about spark or fuel till over 300 hp.

Spyder, the engine most likly does not need to be rebuit, however if you put new heads on a good, older shortblock, there is about an 80% chance of pulling oil past the rings, so, I would stick to bolt on's until the engine really needs a rebuild

Once you get the gears in, get a higher stall converter...2400-3000 rpm stall and add drag radials...should be instant 13's with what you've got.

What kind of driving do you do?? Do you drive much on the freeway? I put my 89 notch into the mid 13's with out that much effort. You need a good shift kit, ( I have a Transgo ) you will need to change to 373 or 410 gears. You do not want to get slicks, your car needs a whole lot of horsepower to use them. They will just make you bog down out of the hole. Sub-frame connectors are a must, weld in are better than bolt ons. You will need to upgrade you rear trailing arms ( I have southside ) when you do that you can get rid of your quiad shocks ( they are just to help with wheel hop ) You need to get a good set of heads ( I have Twisted Wedge ) and a good intake ( I have Trickflow ) . You need to learn how to speed shift a A O D trans. Call me and I can tell you how and give you more info... Rick: PS I got into the 13's with stock intake and heads..
