Question:Stock 00-04 GT 5spd drivers running 14flat range
How in the #%$* do you get those times? My best is 14.65@95mph.My shift points are 6000 rpms in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I launch at 3000 rpms punching it off the line after a smokless burnout. How can I run better times without line lock,DRs and suspension upgrades. I have some Sumitomo HTR II 255/45wr17s on the way which are rated better than my stock tires in dry traction. Heeeellp! I got spanked by a krauted out VW Rabbit (but only by a 10th) Thanks!

Well I dont know, according to MotorTrend, I think, the 2000s with 5spds are supposed to run 14 flat, but I wonder if that has to do with ideal outside temps and a good track? And by stock I shouldve said stock gears because I seriously dont think cold air kits , bigger throttle bodies, elbows and exhaust upgrades make any real difference in ET times but if they do let me know...Thanks for your reply!

i have a 2000 gt and the only mod i had was micky thomson et radials and went 13.72 at 98.87 in the 1/4. 60 ft. was a 1.80 and i launched it at 5500 rpms with no tire spin. i did this two times back to back. now i have a h pipe, preditor tunner,373 gears, cold air intake,150 shot of nitrous, i cant wait to try it again. ps this is a 5 speed car
You are launching the car too hard with those street tires. Try about 2000 rpm and slowly squeeze the throttle as traction alows. I've ran several 2.0x 60' times with my 97 Gt on street tires. 1 tenth off your 60' is worth 2+ tenths at the end of the track. Also what elevation are at? That could have a lot to do with it, I run at 700' above sea level.

If you want to use street tires, don't drive into the water box and heat the tires up. Street tires actually get slick when you do a smoky burn out. Drive around the water box and prestage and stage. If you want, you can clean the tires, which is always a good thing, with a quick dry spin of the tires before you stage.
Take note of where your rpm's are at when the cars does not seem to pull anymore. You should shift just before that. 6000 is too high, I think. Your just beating the crap out of your car. 5300, 5400, or 5500 even. Every car and driver are different. I have my shift light set at 5200. By the time I react to it, I'm shifting at 5400 or 5500. On my 3rd. to 4th shift , I ignore the shift light , and watch my rpms hit 5500 and shift quick whick seems to give me a little more.
But like I said, every car is different.
But remember ,what ever anyone says at the track, don't heat street tires, dont' go in the water box. You'll spin like mad.
Good luck! Practice. What works others, may or may not work for you.
Most important, HAVE FUN!

I forgot about tire pressure. Run the reccomended tire pressure for your vehicle. This is based on the recccomended size tire for your car, with the weight of your car, to give you the best contact patch of your tire to the surface. To much pressure in the rears, will make only the middle come in contact with the drag strip. To little pressure will make only the outsides of the tire come in contact. Think of convex and concave.
You can up the fronts to say 42, if 44 is the max pressure for the tire. This gives your fronts less resistance to roll. The rears as I had said, leave at the reccomended pressure. If you drop a few pounds in the rears , remember your contact patch. To little pressure in the rears will cause your rims to spin inside the tires (not a good thing) or result in dragging a floppy tire down the strip. If you drop pressure in the rears, mark the tires with chalk ( I always use the valve stem for a reference point) and keep note if they are moving. If they are moving, increase pressure.
I hope this helps.
