i have a 89 mustang with a chevy 350.does anyone know of a header that will work on the driver side to go around the steering link?will a s10 shorty header work?
Not my favorite choice of a powerplant for a Mustang, but it's a free country. Probably need some custom tubes made. I am having the same problem with my BBF into a Vega wagon conversion. Desert Dale.
We used 350 conversion headers for the S10. Needed to make a slight mod to the firewall on the passenger side, but it wasn't bad. Also, with the drivers side you have to drop the steering column by 1/4" inside the driver's compartment. easy enough to do, just loosen the bolts - remove & replace them one at a time but stick a couple of washers in there & re-tighten.
Depending on what you used for motor mounts, you may have mounted the engine just a little further forward than what we did, which may allow for the little bit of clearance needed for the header on the driver's side.
I have started a website to help others who are working on the same conversion. http://www.350monstang.com
I get to the garage every couple of weeks to work on it, if there are any detailed pictures that you need, let me know. I'm working on (right now) clearifying a lot of things on the website. There are a hundred pics or so that may be useful to you.
Check it out & let me know if you need any more info.
Man I dont know if it will or not but a 302 makes the power a 350 does so why dint you just put a ford motor in? Just wondering what makes people put GM junk in a ford???
Ford body = Ford motor
GM body = GM motor

The honest answer is we had a 4 cylinder car. We were gonna yank the 4 popper out to put a supercharger on it and dump it into a pinto (yes still going to do that) we then had the car sitting.
My brother had a motor just sitting there, dyno'd at 425 hp and 400 ft/lbs. We have plenty of time, and plenty of spare materials laying around. So we figured - why not. The rest is history.
My first car was a 79 with a 302 - ran good. Damn near ripped the front subframe right off the car. Fun car - miss it dearly.
This project was simply Have motor, have car, having fun with motor in car. This is probably the same reason other's do it. Good, bad or indifferent - we're just out to have a good time like the sane people in the world.
