Default looking for 9-10 Sec. Mustang drivers

I just got my '03 off the dyno. I've done the mods and done the tune. I am confident it should be in the 10's but not if I can't get all those "Ponies" on the ground and not up in smoke. I admit I don't have my "launch" dialed in (release & rpm) but am working on that. I don't think my 315/35R17 drag radials are enough. Any thoughts? I think I may need to locate some non-DOT's that will fit the 17" rim. Any suggestions??? Also am thinking about going to an AT instead of the manual. Any thoughts on that?? Since YOU are all ready running where I want to be, where better to turn?

Well, I don't own a 10 sec stang, but I have been around a lot of 10 Sec cars.

First off, Consider getting a spare set of rims for track use in 15" diameter if they will fit over your brakes and the world will open up on options for Drag tires. Also, if you have the power to run 10's anythign DOT will have a hard time sticking. Consider soft sidewalls. Even a 16" Rim will have more options.

Also, have you done anythign with your spring and shock rates? Some drag springs and adjustable shicks would help a lot to plant better by assising the weight transfer. Speaking of this, have you done any suspension work at all? There is a lot of ET in that alone.

For your transmission. Once you get going fast enough nobody can shift as fast as a nicely built auto. It is somethign to consider and you will be more consistant run to run. Plus your launches will be more accurate and reliable. Not to say it can;t be done with a manual, just its more difficult.

With power to run 10's I am assuming you have a pretty high revving motor that would require a high stall converter. If you go auto you might want to look into a trans brake.

Thank you for your in put. yes, I have done the suspenion work. You are correct about the DOT's as well. And if no one can help me come up with 17" "slicks" you will be correct on the spare wheels of another size. And yes, once more, the brakes may pose a problem but will cross that one when I get there. As for the AT, cosistancy sounds great doesn't it? Hey thanks again.

Consider the M&H 325/45/17 DR. Its 28 tall though, but the increased sidewall height really helps it work. The RPMOutlet S197 car runs low to mid 10's with these tires, with 60' in the 1.4X range. What DR do you have now? Nitto? If so, I can tell you first hand that a M/T or M&H will hook much better then the Nitto.

And yes, IMO, nothing beats a good high stall automatic.

My car will go deep nines (when I get my license). Don't mess around with DRs. Do it right and run slicks. As far as the tranny, I run a reverse manual valve body C4 with a transbrake and a 5,000 stall. You will have issues with a 5 speed . . been there done that.

Here's what it looks like from inside the car slowing down to run 10s . .. at 103mph in the 1/8th and 109mph through the traps.

I dont now if i can help but i have a 9 sec mec capri. Its not as new as yours but it moves pretty well.Do you have stock wheel wells?. if you can get a 29-10.5 or a 28-10.5 under the car it will stick.17 inch rims is a problem. a 15 wont clear your brakes. been there with a freinds car. try a 16 rim and a 28 inch tall tire and make it as wide as you can fit. as slicks go dot or reg slick ive had luck with both. i run a 29 -10.5-15 mt. with a 468 big block c-4 trans 5000 stall and a brake spraying 225hp nos off the line 60ft a 1.3. i like a stick but is really hard to stay consistant. hope this helps .
