Question 351W in a fox body??

Looking to build up a 351W for now, basically get as many ponnies as possible but still keep it steet worthey and practical (not talking about gas lol). Anyway I was originally gonna go for a classic mustang, but then I realized that it's a pain to find rollers in decent shape and standard transmission!!! So now I figure a fox body is the way to go. Plus I wouldn't feel as bad about having to put a roll cage in one and do any hacking/welding that may become necassary. I could build up a 302, but since the prices for stuff is all the same for a 351W i figure I mine as well give myself the displacement if i'm going to do the work....

Basically my question is this: Will a 351 windsor slide in easily to a 5.0 fox body mustang? if so what years???

and if I do have to force the engine in, is it really worth it??

Have a 351 in a 1984 Capri. It fits fine, headers, and all. Still have plenty of room under the hood too. Needless to say, everything under the hood that could be stripped is gone. My only complaint is it's not a Mustang, although most people think it is.

Fox body stangs are pretty much the same dimension '79 to '93. And you can fit pretty much any motor you want (small block or big block) it just depends on how much modifying you want to do, but the 351 will fit no problem as ajreed69 said. I have been thinking of a similar application. I have a 351 block and I think I will bore and stroke to 392ci and use for drag racing.

i just did this swap and it fits great. i used a set of 302 solid motor mounts and just 351 swap headers and a cowl hood that is all i needed to swap it in.

351Windsor works well in a Fox body. If you want to have it legal, be careful of emission control laws where you live. If laws real tight, might be better to stay with a 5.0 based stroker (331-347inch). Good luck!! Desert Dale
