Default best tire pressure for slicks

i have had my car about a month and made only 10 passes in it so i am a green horn. i was running m/t slicks and the guy i bought the car from said he was running 12 psi. i just put a 29" hoosier slick on the car instead of the 28 so i could run a full 1/4. i e-mailed hoosier on tire pressure with no response. i was talking to a guy the other night at the track who was running 9.50 in a 65 stang and he said i should try 15psi because he used to run8-9psi and got faster as the pressure went up. what psi are you guys running and what is the highest you can go? so far the factory has been no help and all it says on the tire is not to exceed 40psi to seat the bead.

When I was racing my Pinto wagon with M/T's I ran about 12 psi tops. A lot of it depends on the weight of your car and your set up though.
