Default Rear drag springs ??

What spring will make a Stang stick off the line and why ?
Stiffer then stock or softer then stock ?

I am putting longer stiffer springs on my 93 hatch along with some custom made control arm brackets to lower the control arms,
( something like SSM control arm brackets ).

Freddie,

What makes your car stick at the track depends on a variety of things. For some good advice go to the corral.net and ask the same question on their drag race forum. SOme knowlegdable guys over there. I would think stiffer springs on a stock type setup though. For killer prices, check out:

Softer springs will work better because they allow your front end to come up more which shifts more weight to the rear of the car to help your tires hook up.

Not true.

A soft spring will merely let the nose come up and plant the back end of the car fast, only to have it rebound and unload the tire a few feet farther out. A stiffer spring is what you want, because you're not trying to send the back end of the car down, you're trying to send the contact patch of the slick into the pavement. This is another reason why I DO NOT like 'lift bars'. Look at the way the body reacts during launch. It plants the tires, but not in the right way. You want the car to force the spring down, by using a stiff spring giving it more compressed energy, and transferring that energy into the control arm to plant that tire.

Just a thought.

Bryan

Whether Comp Engrg. "Slide a Link", or Calverts "Caltracks", SSM Lift Bars or just slapper bars, check with the manufacturer and see what they recommend for their particular product(design). Calvert says a softer "Mono Leaf" works better with his product. Each manufacturer has done extensive testing, and has determined what works best for their design. I do know that Calvert's recommendations changed over an 18 month period as testing progressed.

I personally run 4 cyl springs front and rear on my 88 466 powered coupe. The 4 cyl springs offer great weight transfer. They store alot of energy when at rest then when the front end starts to come up the springs kinda give it a push if you know what I mean. I saw where somebidy said something about unlading the suspension on the way back down but I have never had that problem myself. I run SSM lowers stock uppers (boxed) and a right rear air bag no sway bars and 28x9 et drags and do 1.51-1.52 60's all day. This is just what works for me, hope it helps in some way.
