about a month ago i decided to return to pittsburgh raceway park after 30 years! i was a gopher for my brother,didn't do any racing.anyway, i took my 89 vert for a night of test and tune and made 4 passes.1st pass- 15.29 3rd pass(best one) 15.01. a couple of weeks later i went again. 1st pass15.23 2nd and 3rd passes 14.99 and14.98. it seems like the car needs a pass to clean the cobb webs out then usually goes about .2 faster after the first run. is this normal for street cars?it's an auto,i put it "d" and just floor it. thanks - slo

That's about the best technique for racing an automatic. You could also flash the converter, meaning hold the brake and rev it to about 1200 rpm, then (do this quick) hit the gas a split second before releasing the brake. This is to flash the converter and will give a much better launch. This does not mean to hold the brake and mash the gas until it tries to move.
A 2 tenth improvement in e.t. is a common thing over the first pass. The first pass of the night jitters are over and typically find a better launch.
