Default 1998 Mustang Cobra How Can I Get Better Traction And Better Takeoffs At Track?

Hey guys I have a 98 Cobra with Cold air intake, BBK X-pipe, 4.10 gears and at the track I am getting stuck Burning rubber while taking off at the tree, which is giving me bad times. Is it my shifting or what can I do to get better traction or rear wheel response? Should I buy drag radials and if so what size tire and rim? My car is fast, once it gets going. Any info greatly appreciated.

Stickier tires are always going to help. What do you have done suspension wise? Suspension can help a lot, that is why I ask.

Nothing at all, I was told a 98 Cobra has a good racing suspension already. What do you think? or recommend?

I recommend subframe connectors (full length), adjustable shocks and struts, and adjustable control arms just to get started.

My suggestion is to get the rubber before you do anything else. If you have a set of 17x9 (or even 17x8) wheels, you can use the M/T 275/40-17 DRs. They are just under 26" dia. Combined with 4.10s, you should be able to launch much harder.

Wow, funny thing, I just went to the track yesterday, and got a 14.85 in the 1/4 mile. Traction in my 96 Cobra is horrid. The track wasn't too great either. So what is a good setup for hooking up? I was thinking of some drag slicks, and maybe a Panhard rod with adjustable control arms from Maximum Motorsports.
The fact I have no name tires probably helped the wheel-spin on the line, but i think my best bang for the buck is a set of slicks. Anyone know a good place for a tire/wheel package?
Has anyone done a setup like this before? I live in England, so anything I purchase has to be "good bang for the buck" quality since shipping is expensive! Thanks for the help.
