Default 1989 Mustang Changing Rear Gear Ratio

i have a 89 5.0 w/3.73 and would like the car to launch harder. a suggestion to me was use a shorter rear tire. i am currently running 225/55/16. i think this tire is 25.75 inches tall. how much shorter do i need to go to see a significant difference in actual gear ratio. i want to be able to drive the car to the track w/o changing anything. is there a calculation i can use to figure final gear ratio? thanks-- dan

You might not be able to step down with what size you have now. Yes there is a formula to calculate the effective rear gear ratio but of course I can't find it now Those are already some short tires, if you go lower it wouldn't look right with 24 inch tires. Maybe go from 55 series to a 50 at the most. I think you'll probably have to change the gears.

Ask me why I ran "only" a 13.54.
