Smile Program 4.6L Mustang for better 1/4 Mile Performance?

ok so i finally got to enjoy the wonderful sport of Drag racing my local track does wed night drags. first time out i got a 14.1 at 99mph. second time out with a little more work on my launch and i got it down to a 13.9 at 100mph i still think there is a bit left. anyway what i have done so far is a K&N Cold air intake and a cat back custom exhaust. i have heard about programmers and my friend with a F150 (4.6L) bought a hypertech programmer and he said he could program my car. is this a good idea????? what is the down sides,/ how much will i get power wise also i just passed smog today can i "undo" this program to pass smog again in 2 years thanks for the help.

Angelo

p.s. if you haven't tried drag racing you have to do it at least once its way better then street racing and you don't get that horrible sinking feeling when you look in your rear view mirror and see a copper!

well if you have a 4.6 2v and all you have done is a cold air intake and exhaust you have a fast car. I go to the track very often and dont see those times from stock cars mine included. or do you have the Bullitt as I see your screen name ?

Don't know about Hypertech but retuning with my Predator from Diablosport made a huge difference and putting the stock tune back is possible. The ablility to change parameters is helpful like adjusting speedometer for rear gear changes, shifting points and firmness for automatics, adjusting ignition timing, RPM and Speed limiter adjustments, turning off rear O2 MIL when using O/R pipes. As you can see having a tuner is nice as well as having the ability to read and clear codes and as a diagnostic tool. Your times at the track are impressive for what you've had done to your ride. Congradulations

I got my Diablosport for $380 but shop around some mags have discounts also check out DiabloSport :: Gas and Diesel Tuning Systems The Diablosport will be married to your car you will not be able to share it. The website will have the abillity to download custom tunes as well as updates and a neat Dataviewer program to use on a laptop.

Don't use his programmer. It is not made for your car. It is made specifically for that truck. The Hypertech programmers are made specific to each vehicle. I have an 02 GT and the programmer is made for an 02-04 GT or Cobra. Check compatibility with the product number on the back of the programmer with Hypertech.com

oh and if you want to buy a tuner, by one from eBay, about 100 dollars cheaper. You can get the predator or the Hypertech. I have had great success with the hypertech Price Range for both: 150-300
I got my hypertech for 175

You are taking a chance if you buy a used programmer. They VIN lock to the specific car they have been used on. They have to be returned to the stock setting on the previous vehicle before they can be re-used on another vehicle. If they forget to do that, or sell it while leaving their tune in th program, it is useless.
