Is the drag race treads dead or fast car owners not posting ? Nhra rules this year says anyone running 1/4 time faster than a 9.97 has to buy and use the full face helment rather than openface . Just more money and that helment hurts and screws up vision . Anyone been and got their nhra lisence as well ? Have to get a aviation physical from the doc on your health , they make ya do burn outs , runs , launches and blind fold you so you can reach all switches to turn on and off in case of smoke I guess . Seat belt swap every 2 years and so forth . No nhra men out there ?
With the exception of the full face helmet, those requirements have in place for a long time. I quit running the NHRA circuit in the early 90's, and that is how it was then.

I see , reason for that post is I am fixing to get my lisence at MIRA and never done that trip . Just wandering if rejection or easy to get lisence and how long await after you do all they ask before you get them ?
You've never done what trip? I agree about the helmet cutting down on vision and even hearing, but I also agree with the rule. What's the point of having an open face helmet if it offers no protection for the face? It's hot, gets steamy, fogs up, but it's safer.

Trip I refur to is getting lisence to race , never had to have lisence but my speed shop wants me to travel to points tracks this spring and I wish to go but he says first to the doc , then lisence . I guess good to have them being he signs for me and it will be fun anyway . Thing is it took me everything I had to scrap up to get this r code 69 built and it is just as much a show piece as fast . Hate to wreck this puppy , non replacacable for me anyway . It has raw power in this 427 and wheel stands is up to how high and long on the driver . Only driver at this time is me so far . Friends wish to get under the wheel but naaaa , if I cannot replace it how can another if it is wrecked . Just running my lip somewhat on a post section I wish to share with other fast car owners past history .
It runs at this time a 10 flat , only broke into 9s only once but car is very consistant . I have bought a few parts for a new 428 motor to run H class but not put together yet , cost too much for my pockets so far but getting little as I go . Moldex steal billet crank , aris pistons , have my block but gota be exrayed , sleeved , line bored you know the drill . Go through around 2 sets of heated up rods and miked to get a match set .I got a couple tunnelwedges but donot think h class allows only what car close came installed with . New motor should run mids 9s I hope anyway .
Once you break into the 9's, you need a competition license or you won't be allowed to race, last I heard. Should you be solidly in the 9's and the tech guys aren't familiar with you already, they'll want to see the license. It isn't too hard to do, I believe it's an 8 hour class, to make sure you're up to the task of handling a high horsepower car. You'd have to attend a drag racing school to get it, I'm sure you know that, but it isn't too hard.
And that 69 sounds like it has a good setup.

Car was tubbed before I bought it . Has 588 gears at this time , fiberglass springs . Rear has knobs adjustable to allow streight launches on wheel stands (gota get more nervy)It was tubbed by lasser cutting the body and using a doner car to make it 6 inches longer to handle 35 inch tall tires . strange 35 spline axles . Tranny is doug nash but wish to switch for a richmond , another 5000 bucks gota wait .sweet tranny though . I can have tranny out now and replace a broke gear easy by removing pin , slide out gear , replace , tranny back in from inside car . Just another toy.
That's some steep gears, and must be a screamer. Riding a wheelstand is a little nerve wracking, you have to have faith you set the rear up properly and that it goes straight.

Just gota place your elbow on door with good grip on wheel . Look at side of pavement to see how the car is running . Depend on how high the wheely bars are set and what rpms out the lights on how high and far . I just mostly donot want to wreak it . Tire preasure has to be perfict . Keep a blanket on them or back in trailer so sun one one side , shade on other will not effect tire preasure .
Full face helmets are great! I never used anything but. We always have had more safety equipment than is required but what the heck. In case of fire etc. you want to walk away. I also recommend a set of gloves. They cost about 40 bucks and are rediculously comfortable besides being fire proof. If you prefer driving with your visor open you can always flip it shut it if needed. The full face helmets give a real feeling of security. They are about a hundred bucks or so for an m2000 rated one from racing communications.
