Mustang Drifters?! Just Wondering, HAHA! Post Videos, Pics, Event Stuff Only Please
I enjoy drifting a LOT! LOL! Just thought I'd get that out of the way and with that said, I'll post some videos, my car of choice is a 2001 Bullitt, not many modifications but she's an absolute blast and gets the job done. It's an ongoing build but my friend's Doug and Dave are working with me (they're Mustang drifters as well) and are making this a pretty smooth process so far.
Anyway, on with the video:
This one is at Turner Field, bone stock suspension, just out there driving this car at 11/10ths of what it's capable of. Dave was telling me that at this point I was simply out driving what the car could do and it was time to modify.
Following his advice, I modifed but only slightly. I have a strong passion for this motorsport and as such I don't want to build a car that is beyond what I'm capable of doing. I believe that if you build you car as you build your skill you will become that much better of a driver. If you can master your car when stock, driving it modified will be a walk in the park.
After running neoprine bushings in the rack and Hotchkis Race Springs, I came out with this. You can tell the driving style is completely different and I definitely had to relearn how to drive the car, but it all worked out in the end . . .I even managed to over drive the suspension and spin her around and slide backwards into a pole, LMAO! Don't worry, the car is fine, HAHAHAHA!:
Lets discuss drifting, post some pictures, get some vids up and running, as I mentioned in the title, lets keep the pictures and videos to events only. No offense to those who have not done events yet but parking lot "drifting" is still illegal and I don't want to get anyone in trouble nor do I wish to start any controversy about whether or not it's actual drifting. So lets just stick with the legit stuff.
I'll have some more video after this next event ^_^

Yeah, JR and I have sat down and talked before, he's an incredibly laid back and relaxed guy, and he's always willing to let people go for a ride-along in his beast. He, along with Drift Alliance, always put together the best events up in the North East regions, very cool guy!

Nice job for a near stock set-up. I especially like that you used a Bullitt. I have never competed in a real drift contest, I have played around in parking lots and a few other places. A couple of my friends do drift competitions frequently during the summer but I have never had the time to go to them.
Here are some from a Professional Drifting Exhibition we did out at Lanier Speedway . . .in the first video I'm still getting a feel for it, my friend crashes his Cobra trying to keep pace with me . . .I felt soooo bad . . .
In the second video my other friend crashes his 240 . . .didn't make me feel so hot . . .video 3, I head out with my friend Howie behind me and we have a BLAST! I lose the drift a few times but a few modifications and some more seat time for next season will clear that up!!!!
looks sweet! i wonder if there are any legal events like that in the houston area, i would love to check em out, looks great!
nice skills btw!
Absolutely, drifting is HUGE in Texas! It's actually one of the more popular states to live in/be around for drifting. If you're interested and would like to find out more, just hit me up on AOL Instant messenger, my sn is hunterd557 or just shoot me an email, I've got a few friends out there that can show you where/when the shows will be happening!
Thanks for the congrats, check out my homepage and my Youtube page for more fun times! My latest vid features my big brother as well! He's NUTS . . .N-V-T-S . . NUTS!

thats pretty sick .....hmm wonder ifhowd my would handle drifting
Bring your car to an event! Try it out and see if you can get either myself or one of the other Mustang drifters to drive it for you! You might be pleasantly surprised. Yeah, the Mustangs aren't the greatest drifters on the planet, but they can work with a persistent and, most importantly, consistent driver.
Take care,
-Dave

I took the car out and just did a couple of quick test with the newly light-weight Bullitt. It's true, a heavier Bullitt will travel further when projected but a lightweight one is definitely more maneuverable! I'm very excited about this rapid weight loss plan and hope to continue on! Next up, as mentioned, is the carbon bits, relocated battery (hopefully a smaller one) and lighter weight suspension/chassis parts. To round it all out, I'll go through and replace all iron/steel bolts, screws and nuts with a their lighter weight counterparts. The reduction is estimated between 200 and 300 pounds depending on how crazy you get!
i imagine i sound really dumb asking this but is drifting in the v6 possible?
its a 5spd so i know its better with a manny but i rode with one of my friends and now i wana learn how to do it haha.

Doesn't sound dumb at all, it's an awesome question!
Drifting in the V6 is very possible, drifting isn't about power at all, it's about car control and handling. The best way to find out how good your car is at the game of sideways is to bring it out to a drifting event and drive.
I'd imagine your best bet would be to be to either purchase a limited-slip differential, or weld your current differential, hit up a few events and get your car control down pack. Initiation is key with our cars, the way you set it up and the way you enter the drift is going to determine how the drift carries out. Enter too hard and you'll understeer rapidly or spin out before the turn completes. Enter too soft and you'll simply grip your way through the turn.
If you have any other questions, just let me know.
