Lowerednjuiced,
Thanks very much for your reply!!
I have considered that possibility, but there are a few problems that i have encountered with this course of action:
1. Left hand drive is
99% impossible to find in the U.K. (especially when looking for a specific model, with specific options)
2. I do that road almost every summer, when i go to france on vacation. However, I do it with a Greek licensed car. It is not the teloneio that is the problem. It is that the greek legislation on car imports is not up to date with European Union legislation, meaning, that the Greek authorities require you to take a foreign licensed vehicle out of the country once every 6 months, and stay out for a month, before re-entering Greece. (despite that i have been hearing for quite some time that they "
will" change the laws and allow european licensed vehicles to roll around freely in Greek territory. This has a basic fundamental reason for being so: if anyone was allowed to take cars from other european countries, two problems would occur for greece:
---1. They wouldn't be able to keep track of registrations, plates, etc.. because their databases and systems, and procedures are more than 10 years back compared to other countries.
---2. The Greek "Madres" would lose alot of money by
not selling their
OVERPRICED second hand cars.
The best option I have found up to now is:
Buy either new, or second hand (relatively new) car from U.S.A., bring it by container with a container ship to Belgium, where Belgian Transit Plates would be slapped on the car, (and perform a sell/re-buy operation with documents proving the purchase of the vehicle
in Belgium, and then drive down to greece, and pay import tax (which is about 40% of the purchase price,
not original price, which will be relatively low thanks to the sell/re-buy in belgium, and slap on some greek plates, and there you have it.. Brand new Greek Registered Shelby GT500...
