Hey guys,

I'm in italy and just got my new 08 mustang gt/cs. I'm loving it and pretty stoked. I just got on the autostrada however today and noticed by hood scope seemed to be a little loose. Im worried it might come off. Any chance I can make it functional so I dont have to worry bout this?

Those scoops aren't really designed to be functional. Where does it seem loose?

Welcome to the forum from a fellow european I agree: how do you surmise the hood scoop is 'loose'?

Default I may have just been a little parinoid

I dont know guys, it just seemed that my hood was a little shakey. Maybe I was just seeing things. But do I have to worry about it affecting the performance and cant drive that fast becasue it might come loose? And making them functional would be hassle? Is it worth it?

Where are you stationed? Naples? I spent two years in Comiso. What a great tour that was.

I know I have the same feeling with mine... but I gotta get up to 160 kph to 180 kph (100 to 110 MPH) before I actually would consider seeing anything. And even then I'm not really sure.

Haven't heard from a hood flipping over on my model yet, and I know it locks down pretty tight on the closing of the hood, so I'm pretty sure it's not something I need to really worry about. As to performance... Has nothing to do with it really.

Usually the biggest hurdle is the water that might come through and get on the engine. Shouldn't really do much (unless it's HEAPS of water, other then getting the engine dirty. Provided the water doesn't get near the electrical stuff such as sparkplugs which could get soaked. If anything the hoodscoop won't really allow for a functional change, but you could use it to get extra air down to the engine to cool it I suppose. Most I've heard of it, it's mainly a hassle to do (atleast on the 99-04 models), and most forego actually doing it.

I'm not sure how much of this holds true for the S197 models tho.

Default thanks for the reply

Aviano is where I'm at. Thanks for the info. I didnt think about getting the engine dirty or wet. If anything I might drill small holes just to allow a little air flow but not big enough for anything to get into the engine. How does that sound? lol I'm just trying to find a loop hole cause I just feel it would be cooler if it actually served a purpose... I didnt think about that when I bought because It looked so damn GOOD!

It would only serve the feeling if you did make it functional. As to looks, performance and stuff like that, it wouldn't really matter. And would you really take the chance of getting ater in places you don't want it if you made the holes just a tad too big?

Besides that, small holes don't really do much in terms of functionality, and even then... if water gets near them they might corrode, and I'm pretty sure the wind pressure will just make sure the water will still get in anyway.
