Each and every Sunday from 10:30am to 12:00pm you can count on finding your fellow Mustangers meeting up at Don Cherry's on Freshwater for a healthy heaping of breakfast griddles topped off with plenty car talk and steaming hot coffee. If the weather is good, bring along your ride and if it's not so good, bring yourself. The gang will be there! So now that we know where and when, let me tell you the why and what you to expect:

Don Cherry's is centrally located with a large freshly paved parking lot and is providing us with a reserved "Mustangs Only" area for us each and every Sunday that can easily handle as many Mustangs as we throw at it. Perfect!

Don Cherry's offers a complete breakfast menu at very reasonable prices but it gets better. The portions are huge. To make us feel even more at home, they have even added an "All Ford Mustangs" discount to their breakfast menu so you also receive a 15% discount off of your bill. How's that for a sweetener!

So bring your husband, boyfriend, wife, girlfriend and the family because you can afford to feed the entire crew at those prices. To qualify for your Mustang Member Discount all you need to show is your Mustang ignition key and/or one of our All Ford Mustangs business cards.

Following message is from the Clarenville Dragway. These guys put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into keeping a local dragstrip open and are always open to new ideas/ suggestions. So if you got any, they're always more than willing to listen as they especially want to increase the street car count on racedays. Maybe even a spec Mustang season long series :bigthumbsup

The plan is to have a drivers meeting around the end of November or early December so there can be a discussion on what track management can do to increase car counts at the track next season with a special focus on street cars and motorcycles. New suggestions and constructive criticism welcome.

To get the juices flowing feel free to post comments here but please identify yourself if you want your comments brought to the meeting. Also keep in mind that the track must cover all of its expenses so if you are suggesting something that has an expense component to it please try to suggest an option to create new revenue to pay for it or at least recognize it and perhaps someone else can offer a revenue generating option. Always open to new sponsors!!!!!

As an example is there interest in instituting a Jr. Dragster class to get some of the racers who left due to starting families back to the track with their kids and spouses in tow. This has been a major win for the track in PEI where they can have anywhere between 12-20 Jr.’s when they host their larger events & some racers who started in Jr. dragster have now moved on to Super Pro & Pro..

I know that a lot would like to see a track closer to the city but the reality is that it is probably not an option any time soon so until there a track closer to St John’s up and running why not try to make the only operating strip in Newfoundland & Labrador a continued success.

Bell Island may be a 1/8 mile option however if it starts to draw the car counts and spectators that we saw 25+ years ago there you can be certain that there will be negative reaction from the commuters who rely on the ferries to get to and from work unless there is a way to address this up front. This was a serious problem 25 years ago and resulted in the loss of the venue and could well become an issue again.

Argentia is simply not an option at all, the surface is shot and the weather for those who never experienced it is almost always an issue. If you like foggy, damp, windy weather Argentia is the place to be!

Important for everyone to keep in mind that Clarenville Dragway is owned by 30+ shareholders many of whom do not race but simply have an interest, it is managed by a board most of whom race at the track so it is very much a racers track. There is no one involved who is putting any money in his/her pocket quite the opposite in fact.

LET’S WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE LOCAL DRAG RACING THE BEST THAT IT CAN BE!!!!!

Some notable quotes:

On the inside...The Camaro is the big loser here. The Mustang, on the other hand, does nearly everything right on the inside...The Challenger falls between the two cars.

With more corners than straights at Calabogie Motorsports Park, the Mustang’s 136 kg (300 lb) weight advantage over the Camaro came into play. Despite only reaching a maximum speed of 175 km/h down the straight the ‘stang was able to eek out a faster lap time than the Camaro by carrying slightly more speed through the corners... The Challenger should wait in the paddock for the drive home.

...The fact is that Ford has been improving the Mustang GT for years, while Dodge and Chevrolet have been focusing on minivans and SUVs. The major changes to the Mustang came in 2005, but 2010 marks another year where the engineers stepped up their game, especially on the interior and the handling with the Track Pack. The Camaro is close, but...

Each and every Sunday from 10-30am to 12:00pm you can count on finding your fellow Mustangers meeting up at Don Cherry's on Freshwater for a healthy heaping of breakfast griddles topped off with plenty car talk and steaming hot coffee.

Perfect!

Don Cherry's is providing us with a very large reserved room complete with an outdoor patio directly off of it, that just happens to overlook our "Mustangs Only" parking area. Gotta Love it!

Don Cherry's offers a complete breakfast menu at very reasonable prices but it gets better. Both the food and the service is excellent and the portions are huge. To make us feel even more at home, they have even added an "All Ford Mustangs" discount to their breakfast menu so you also receive a 15% discount off of your bill. Hows that for a sweetener to get you to rev up your Mustang and join us at Don Cherry's every Sunday morning!

So bring your husband, boyfriend, wife, girlfriend and the family because you can afford to feed the entire crew at those prices. To qualify for your Mustang Member Discount all you need to show is your Mustang ignition key and one of our All Ford Mustangs business cards. If you don't already have one, look on your windshield or ask one of us when we see you on Sunday!

This is my first year and I would like to hear the opinions of those that have been down this road before. Unless I'm advised differently, I intend to remove the battery and keep it at home on trickle charge, change the engine oil, top inflate the tires and cover with a cloth car cover. Would you recommend anything else?
