LIke most of you, I've been following the campaign and I have now seen and heard enough to know where I stand. Senator Obama, in my view, is head and shoulders above the rest.
He has the depth, the reflectiveness, and the resilience to be our next President. He speaks to the America I've envisioned in my music for the past 35 years, a generous nation with a citizenry willing to tackle nuanced and complex problems, a country that's interested in its collective destiny and in the potential of its gathered spirit. A place where "...nobody crowds you, and nobody goes it alone."
At the moment, critics have tried to diminish Senator Obama through the exaggeration of certain of his comments and relationships. While these matters are worthy of some discussion, they have been ripped out of the context and fabric of the man's life and vision, so well described in his excellent book, Dreams From My Father, often in order to distract us from discussing the real issues: war and peace, the fight for economic and racial justice, reaffirming our Constitution, and the protection and enhancement of our environment.
After the terrible damage done over the past eight years, a great American reclamation project needs to be undertaken. I believe that Senator Obama is the best candidate to lead that project and to lead us into the 21st Century with a renewed sense of moral purpose and of ourselves as Americans.
Over here on E Street, we're proud to support Obama for President

Well! that's politics. The campaign ran by Obama, His dealings with Rezko, His unashamed and continuing support of the Racist and separatist Trinity church, Recent elitist and condescending comments on the campaign trail should clue you in that he is not "Head and shoulders " above the rest, he is the same!!!!
As for Bruce Springsteen's support... 1984 called, it cares.

Psssht. McCain's pastor friend called all catholics devils.
We won't even go into Falwell, who said America deserved the 9-11 attacks.

Considering that Trinity initiated an exchange program with several white churches, it would seem that you watch Fox News to get your information.
The last time we voted based on videoclips, I think we all lost.

yeeeeaaaaahhhh, that really worked out for y'all well, the last time .. . .
;-)
Like I said before, MOST of the arguments we've had are settled re: Domestic policy - Gun Control, Stem Cell Research, Separation of Church and State, etc., etc., etc., McCain and I are in agreement.
I won on domestic issues, no matter who wins.
All that's left is trade, foreign policy, and civil liberties.
McCain was FOR civil liberties before he was against them, so really all that's left is trade and foreign policy.
Out of all the issues, to only have 2 differences is just fine for me. But, I think all would agree that our trade and foreign policy is insane.
The only one who will take action on the issues is Obama -Given that Clinton used to be on Wal MArts board, and has surrogates pushing more deals.
McCain is doing the same.
So that leaves Obama.

I think you missed my point! You said... Obama was "head and shoulders" above the rest, I said... "he's the same" and pointed out a few reasons why.
In fact you made my point by bringing up Falwell and Mccain thus lumping them all together. I'm not anti Obama, in many ways I admire him. I look at all three candidates with equal mistrust.

This is the difference,
McCainites and Clintonistas hate the players. Obamans hate the game.
You can't build consensus unless you are willing to talk to all the nutjobs and convince them they are wrong. That includes folks in the militias, of which I personally have friends that I talk to, Black Nationalists, of which I have friends that I talk to, Israelis, of which I have friends that I talk to, Palestinians, of which I have friends that I talk to, etc., etc, etc., refusing to talk to someone who doesn't think the way you do doesn't solve any problems.
My roommate in college was the grandson of a KKK grand wizard in Missouri. If I refused to talk to him because of what he believed on the first day we met, I would have lost out on a great friendship of 20 years.
I wouldn't talk to half the people here, if I had to base my relationships on the things people have said in these forums.
That's no way to run a country.

I just saw this thread as I was logging off - probably should have just logged off... this stuff steams me. I have not gone to the movies in years, stopped buying CDs and barely watch TV.
I am sick of having performers and actors shove their beliefs down my throat. Springsteen has always been an idiot - as well as Bono, and the rest of the morons. Shut up and record music. <end rant>
