Every credible scientist and expert believes action is necessary.
So now a guy who (if he is to be believed) was so damn naive that he attended a rascist church and claimed a rascist minister as his 'mentor' for nearly two decades without ever realizing that there were rascist attitudes in play claims to decide which 'scientist[s] and expert[s]' are credible? Give me a freakin' break.
I started out (way back a year or so ago) with cautious optimism regarding Obama. The more he talked while saying nothing, at all - even more than other politicians - the more I grew wary of him. When details of his past and associations started coming to light, I began to dread the idea of him as president. The more he talks, now, the more I move toward outright hatred and disgust of the SOB. Too bad I regard McCain with equal disdain because Obama would be just about enough to make me vote Republican in a presidential election for the first time in my voting life.
Oh, wait, technically I am going to vote Republican. Ron Paul never officially left the GOP ballot.
JB, Ron won't be on any ballot for President (unless he mounts an independent run, which he says he won't).
Bob Barr is the Libertarian candidate (good man). Check out the Libertarians this year.

I'll check out Barr. There are a few issues - only a few - upon which I disagree with the Libertarian party (I consider Libertarian - as in the political party - to be somewhat different from being a libertarian in what I think of as the classic sense - which is closer to my own views and, I believe, to the overall philosophy upon which the country was founded.) Problem is, my objection to their stand on those few issues is so strong that I'm not sure I can vote that way, either. I'll give it a look and fair consideration, though. If it comes down to it, I can always do a write-in. I know - even less chance of such a vote affecting the outcome of the election, but I will still vote - if only to be able to say that I did my duty and voted - and not for whichever of the equally poor choices (Obama or McCain) wins.
Oh, I'm not entirely happy with ANY political party. The Libertarians will, in general, follow the letter of the Constitution and err on the side of individual freedom - so our overall philosophies are pretty close.
But NO party is a monolith, and the Libertarian party has its right and left wings, its fringe, and its LINOS (Libertarians in name only), just like the big gusy.
In my case, I disagree on the last party platform in some important ways...
They were too isolationist (downright 19th century) - goldbug-ish - and yet catered far too much to the "humans have the right to pass any border they want" group. These items disturbed me then, but they are (as always) up for interpretation by the current candidate and the party committee. I am hopeful that Bob will see some moderation of these stands.
I find myself in agreement with their stand on Iraq (it was a huge strategic blunder, followed by a bigger one in the way in which the rebuilding was structured), but in disagreement with their view of the War on Terror (isolationist and unrealistic).
I like the de-criminalization of drugs and the idea that we will do better to treat addiction rather than criminalize it.
If you want to discuss any particular Libertarian planks, let me know - it can be a deep topic.

I fell like Rocky in the meat processing plant with this dead horse!
If you look treatment is all the courts seem to want to try, mandatory treatment for this that and fifty thousand other things, and this has been going on for decades! Has it worked? I would have to look it up but some big guru in the “treatment” field said they need to spend more money on prevention, according to this guy every dolor in prevention saves 5 dolors in treatment costs.
The success rate of treatment programs is totally dismal!

Actually I have voted Libertarian before, and almost certainly will again. Like you there are a few things I don’t agree with reference them but on a whole they are much better then the dems and rep!

Of course, Obama is not the only Presidential candidate mourning the failure of this bill to pass. In McCain's statement, he says:
“Unfortunately, despite the commitment and tireless efforts of the bill's sponsors, Senators Lieberman and Warner, it appears that for now, the Senate, at the direction of the Majority Leader, will choose to put politics above policy, and Congress will fail to act yet again on this critical issue. But rest assured, we will not give up until we finally succeed in enacting needed, comprehensive cap and trade legislation to address this urgent problem.”

And here I thought. "every dollar in prevention saved 16 dollars in cure"
...as in an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure
