Default This stufff is scary.

Any of you guys familiar with this Zeitgeist the movie? This is a pretty long video but scary none the less. As Ben Franklin said "Any man willing to give up his freedom for some perceived security deserves neither freedom or security"

Default Ugly Story

Don't fall for the dialectic.

Ben Witherington: The Zeitgeist of the 'Zeitgeist Movie'

[quote] Never mind it is a bad movie based on shabby 'research' ( I use the term loosely) and actually no historical understanding about ***** and the origins of Christianity. Never mind that Mr. Joseph can't tell the difference between arguments about the myth of the Easter bunny and arguments about ***** Christ. He's got his knickers all in a knot because his 'truth' is being suppressed. It has not occurred to him that maybe, just maybe, thoughtful people who know far more than he does about this subject are very kindly letting his bad movie die a slow death, as it did not deserve worldwide attention and fame and fortune. The problem with syncretistic thinking like Joseph's is that you put all sorts of disparate sources and information into your mental blender and blend them all together. Thus the ***** myth and conspiracy is likened by him to the cover up of 911 conspiracy and so on. The sad part about this is that it is just emoting and anger masked as and pretending to be historical research and scientific evidence. The sad part he believes that he is the victim of the suppression of free speech. [quote]

Good expose of this junk.

Of course, this sort of thing will appeal to the same sort of people who buy onto things like moral equivalence, numerous conspiracy theories, global warming, marxism or a long list of other tricky pieces floating around.

As a committed agnostic I'm not threatened by the subtle anti-Christian message - I just find someone going to this much trouble to try to fool me about something annoying.

Thanks trip, I figured this was a bunch of crap. Especially when I saw the 911 conspiracy thing. I just stumbled over this Zeitgeist Move thing by accident. Agan thanks for the info.

I've leaned a lot from this forum. A bunch of good guys that engage in intelligent debate without flaming each other.

Default Intelligent Universe

This Zeitgeist "filmiac" gives me hives.

"Pseudo-facts" for the pseudo-intelligencia. "Reserach" via pre-selected data run through a blender. This guy must drive real anthropologists nuts.

You're right about AFM, pfiandra - there are some guys on here who will discuss any topic without losing their grip on reality - even when its a hot topic that really matters to them.

Its HARD to marshal an on-topic argument based upon facts, research and the best data available - much easier just to toss out some insults and opinions.

That's why we have rules against personal insults. This defuses most issues, and makes it possible to discuss things that involve current events more meaty than sports and the weather.

I learn something new every single time I sign on.

And I never know who will be bringing me the gold today - whether its County or KScoyote - some newbee or one of the wise old heads who rarely post but have been hanging around AFM since it was born.

Makes it all worth the investment in time, and I HIGHLY value my time!
