...And I HOPE we don't follow!
LOL, the California Democrats have been watching with keen interest whether or not Obama could actually get away with winning power by twisting the English language into a pretzel, and you know what?
He did.
So now they are putting this successful new game plan into action:
[quote, Neal Boortz]...for months, the Republicans in California have blocked efforts to increase taxes.
Until now... the Democrats in the California legislature have decided that since they can't have their tax increases, they will just call them something else:
"fees." By calling them "fees" rather than "taxes", there is a loophole in the law that will let the legislature increase "fees" with a simple majority vote - rather than the typical two-thirds. This is straight from the Barack Obama play book .. let's not call it "welfare" we'll call them "tax cuts"! You get the idea.
So these Democrats will be able to increase the state sales tax by three-fourths of a cent. Gas taxes will increase by 13.5 cents a gallon. There will be a 2.5% surcharge added to income taxes. New taxes will be aimed at the oil companies.
All of this .. because the Democrats can just change the language. [quote]

Note what the California legislature is doing. We can look for the Democrats now running Washington to follow suit:
1. When the last vestiges of Republican power in the Senate manage to block things the Democrats want to do, look for them to Change the rules. Closure votes? Just a simple majority.
2. "Tax Cuts" will indeed be pushed through for millions of Democrat-voting people who pay no taxes.
3. New "Fees" will be charged to the Left's hit list of industries they simply don't like, just as California is doing. Evil oil companies will head the list. Back door tax increases, er, new "fees", will swell the price of gasoline, diesel and heating oil while cheering throngs demand MORE punishment, er, new "fees", for oil companies (who promptly pass the increased cost downstream to us, of course).
4. Look for the Feds to emulate California by adding on a big new Federal fuel tax as well. This is one of those direct taxes that is well-hidden, buried in the total price at the pump, so its a popular tool for the Congress to pump in more vote buying taxes, er, "fees".
5. That 2.5% surcharge on income taxes looks very juicy to the Pelossi/Reid/Obama troika. Obama already promised a similar tax hike to everyone earning either $250k or $200k or $150k or $125k per year (no one is quite sure), though small businesses who have little access to capital gains other than through death will get a quixotic capital gains tax break for some reason... Maybe that is meant to soften the blow when the Bush tax cuts (actual, real tax cuts that save EVERYONE currently paying taxes a nice chunk of change) are allowed to expire and the Death Tax makes a big comeback.
Yep. Words are powerful things. Now that "tax cuts" don't exist (as we once knew them) anymore, the drip, drip, drip of Chinese torture twisting the English language will accelerate.
Someone start a scoresheet and take notes. The dictionaries are all obsolete.
