Angry Is half the American work forcehandicapped?

Just venting over what appears to be a massive abuse of "handicapping" conditions. I'm perfectly fine with legitimate handicapped people getting some assistance. The 500lb plus, thirty something year old guy I saw parking in the handicapped space at the all you can eat buffet constitutes a self inflicted condition. The hover round and oxygen mask would not have been necessary if I had seen him push away from the table after a reasonable amount of food. I had finished eating but slowing sipped my beverage and chatted with a friend so I could see when the spectacle would end. The poor little asian waitresses were working their butts off to keep him resupplied (the Berlin air drop would have been easier). It was like Gulliver's Travels come to life. After the 7th plate he called it a night leaving a 2 dollar tip. I gave the waitress cleaning his table a five to settle up right. At the checkout the cashier asked if everything was ok and he actually complained that he had trouble getting to some of the food. I have been speechless until now.

Around here we have several pickup trucks, jacked 4 feet in the air so that the bumpers are chest height, with handicapped plates. They can't be too handicapped if they can manage to get in and out of a vehicle that I'd need a stepladder to climb into.

I couldn't agree with you more, I became totally disabled ten years ago due to a work related injury. Since then I've had 11 back surgeries, I now have 28 pedical screws holding me together. I'm an ex-trailer driver and heavy equipment operator, I ended up breaking my back on the job and it left me in pain 24/7/365. But back to the buffet, I don't care which one you go to there are always at least a dozen scaring the crap out of the waitress when she sees 3 plates in his hand and topped. What gets my ass the most, is when your waiting in line and they run out of food in one bin. Now the guy comes from the kitchen, to refill it and he has to push you out of the way with three plates nearly full. Then he leaves you waiting for more, not tonight I walked around and this guy weighed at least 550lbs. My wife says to me what are you going to do, I told her not to worry and walked around where I could get a clear shot. Because you know you can't squeeze anything between their legs, everybody was watching and waiting as I walked around. I just couldn't take it any more, so I finally got around the line and tapped him in the family jewels. He just looked in shock, as I asked him if he had enough and if he knew how many people were waiting in line. He looked at me and waddled away, they can't walk in a straight line they walk side to side. Everyone in line almost died, then thanked me for getting him out of the line. I know he would have emptied the tray, each time he walked up he grabbed 3 plates and guarded them like a mad pit bull. And this guy didn't leave any tip at all, when he left the owner was so glad to see him go and banned him from the restaurant. My wife and I had left just after he did, and saw him still trying to get settled in his car. Now the car was a 1979 Caddy Sedan Deville, that I think someone moved the front seat back another 7 inches. When the seat was all the way back, you couldn't put anyone behind him and his gut was wrapped around the wheel that's how big this guy was. He made the comic John Pinette, look like twiggy if anyone remembers how thin she was, Mike.

I see where they were going with this. It is kind of aggravating when people use handicapped spots just because they are overweight. And then to make things worse, they go into wal-mart for instance and instead of walking, use the motorized wheel chair things which struggle under the weight. Don't get me wrong, I know some people have a medical condition which can't be helped, but you can tell the lazy ones a lot of times. It is frustrating at times.

Thankfully, it's not only overweight people that abuse the system and clearly - it's not defined by body mass - more like brain mass...

I see plenty of people abusing the Handicapped Parking areas... and in NJ you have to have either plates or a rear view hang tag... many have neither. And it ticks me off - But I think to myself, what goes around comes around - maybe someday them or a family member will be handicapped and then they won't be able to find a spot...

I have a Vietnam Vet buddy who is handicapped. No legs. He has to get around in a wheel chair, and he is retired now from his desk job, but he DOES have a hobby...

He carries around a boxcutter and nips the valve stems of folks parked in handicapped without a permit.

He says it makes him happy.

I'll have to ask him what he does to monster trucks that DO have a permit.

People that are overweight due to a medical condition that they have no control over is one thing but the one's that are obese because they're too lazy to exercise properly and don't know that the orifice on the front of their face does not feed into a bottomless abyss are the ones being discussed. They're no different than the alcoholic or addict that chooses their own path & just like those, they will at some point have to utilize medical care that will give the insurance companies an "excuse" to raise rates or some other BS.

It just pisses me off to see people that don't take care of themselves and then whine and complain about their situation.

+1, medical condition, i can understand that. But, when someone is obese and complaining how they don't know how they got like this or why can't they lose the weight, as they are sitting there eating 10 plates of food at a buffet. I don't think they should get a handicap anything and walking would probably do them some good.

I have to say, what a hobby - we could use him here in NJ!!

It irritates me when people who are clearly NOT handicapped/disabled/properly licensed take the spot... burns me up.

Addiction, addiction, addiction, I get so sick when people say addiction is a disease.
You can make the choice not to drink alcohol.

You can make the choice not to smoke crack cocaine.

Name one person who woke up one morning and said “I chose not to have cancer today.”

Amen, I personally yell at kids under my supervision when they go around hitting the handicap door button too for no reason. It is one of my pet peeves. I work with the truly handicapped frequently, both physically and mentally. If you aren't handicapped don't use it. I remember we took my sister to a gym meet many years ago and went with another family. She happened to have her mothers handicap tag with her and just parked up front because she didn't want to walk the block to park. . .As a kid I didn't think much of it, but in hindsight it bugs the crap out of me.

He'd laugh. He can be hard on his fellow handicapped. Note that the same person could also expect a parking ticket, and for similar reasons. He has been known to let the air out of cars WITH parking tickets on their windshield already, too.

My friend rarely uses the handicapped slots himself, if he can find one a little further afield that will work. He likes to push himself around. Has arms like Popeye.

He's not what you would call a "nice guy". More like "scary".
