Lest anyone forget, one of the most pervasive changes wrought by the Obama Administration is that involving his army of Czars. One of these is Dr. John Holdren, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology.
He is proposing that the FCC use its power over the media to force them to air propaganda, er, ads, touting his own peculiar ideas about how mankind should do things like reproduce.
In the past he has been a strident supporter of topics like ZPG (using the power of government to strictly control reproductive rights).
I realize that fans of history will see the striking similarity between the ideas and methodology of the good Doktor and certain unsavory groups who once caused a minor problem in Europe back in the 30's and 40's, but that is just a funny coincidence.
Herr Doktor, er, John Holdren that is, was not yet born back then, and cannot be expected to have learned anything from the unfortunate results of those earlier researchers seeking to improve mankind via their own unique vision.
No, the Doktor is NOT a demon rat nazi, he is just a wannabe who plays one on TV.

They would indeed fix many problems with society given a generation or two. The problem is that pesky Constitution. How would concepts such as those interact with the freedoms guaranteed by it? From where I'm standing, they don't mesh in the least so the Constitution wins by default.

The problem with such "controls" has always lain with who does the choosing.
Nazis like the good Doktor, working from a bizarre leftwing perspective? The malefactors County sees would be the LAST people the Doktor would bother with - odds are good we would see them among the brownshirt muscle enabling der Doktor's campaign! Oh no, it would be folks like US, "clinging to our Bibles and guns and the Constitution" who would be entering concentration camps, getting neutered, and denied any right to reproduce.
Once this particular road is opened up, the toll is inevitably going to rise, and as Castro so succinctly opined "One man, one vote, one time". Its an election you only lose ONCE. I may be engaging in fantasy, but I'm hoping against "Hope" that the "Change" we voted in last time will NOT end up being a Castro-event.

IMO the problem with so many idiots out there is because we simply keep propping them up. We make laws to protect them from their own stupidity. We support them financially when they can’t compete in the workplace. And the list goes on and on.
Heck, I know of a couple that the female is what I consider mildly retarded and she “suffers from migraines” (and has other genetic problems because of inbreeding), her husband is retarded (seriously, he IS retarded), and both of them get paid by the State and Federal Government (so they don’t work, nor contribute to society in a useful way), and to top it off they were allowed to adopt a severely downs syndrome child… and they get paid for THAT as well.
I know that is a severe example (although true) of how messed up things are (IMO) concerning preventing “natural selection” from doing what it is SUPPOSED to do. We got where we are today as a species because the smartest and strongest of us survived and the rest did not. But it is not PC to suggest that each person should advance or fail, both in society as well as in life in general, on their own merits and abilities (or lack of). NO ONE is supposed to die of their own stupidity or natural causes. No matter how polluted the gene pool is, just breed away and be supported by the rest of us in one way or another.
We do NOT need a eugenics program. We do not need to “choose” who lives or dies. We just need to stop trying to save everyone at any cost. It is similar to when they tried to stop all forest fires. What they did was just interrupt natures own cleaning and refreshing cycle. And then when there WAS a fire, it was HUGE and got out of control. Why? Because it had too much fuel to feed itself with. That fuel would not have been there if the natural cycles were allowed to happen.
Well… now they allow burns to happen in many places, and even CAUSE them at times.
The human race is much the same way. We have epidemics that thin the population. We have wars that thin the population. We have …. Well you get the idea. And when you stop all of the things that help control population, you end up with an overpopulated planet… much of which are idiots.
Now don’t misunderstand me. I am not an impassionate person… quite the opposite. But I just think that things have gone WAY too far in the direction of “save everyone, and support everyone”. And in the end we all suffer.
