This afternoon I was heading to one of the college campuses for a classical music concert which was actually scheduled for next Thursday. -.-
Anyways en-route to the campus I run into a state trooper, he's on the far right side and I'm a lane from the farthest left. I figure he won't mind me doing 60 mph in a 55 since it is only a warning ticket either way. Apparently not, after half a minute or so I see him catching up to me. I change lanes, as soon as he gets behind me, bam! lights go on.
I said damn, what the hell happened. He comes up, asks me for the regular then if I have any weapons in the car... I tell him no. He goes back to his vehicle and comes back and opens my door. (Isn't this unreasonable search?) Looks to my rear seats and then the the 2nd Vin # on the door frame.
Asks me to step outside because he doesn't know where the car is from. It turns out the vehicle is out from New Jersey and the paper saying my plate is being transferred wasn't enough because the date wasn't filled out correctly.
After that he tells me to stay outside of the vehicle and to watch out for any one who may lose control and side swipe us... yeah ok.
All the sudden there are two more FHP cars screaming down the palmetto, lights blazing, almost causing an accident trying to stop and pull to the shoulder in time.
Then they get out and start laughing and talking about things other than the situation because I didn't think it was a laughing matter.
After a bit the cop who pulled me over comes to me with two tickets. Then he begins to state how I'm a criminal and the citation I am being given for the tag being on a vehicle other than the one it was registered to, even though the transfer was in progress and a 70mph in a 55.
If I can't get out of it through a friend I'm going to fight it.
Math:
60MPH (5 over the speed limit) = ~88fps (Me)
55MPH = ~81 fps (Cop)
Within 10 seconds of passing him I'd be 70 feet ahead of him
Within 15 seconds of passing him I'd be 105 feet ahead of him (A third of a football field)
In order to catch up to me and have a viable distance measured for a pace clock measurement to be valid he must be clocking me for a viable distance.
Now say that I am 105 feet ahead of him, if he hits 70MPH which is what he allegedly clocked me at it will take him about 8 seconds, which is when he turned on the lights and sirens. He could not have possibly had an accurate speed of my car playing catch-up.
I am a member of the Florida Association of State Troopers but after this ordeal I won't be donating again. I am not mad at receiving tickets, I've had 3 violations in the past with super nice police officers but these troopers were dicks.
wow dude that sucks, i think he was jealous of your car. one time my sister got pulled over so she turned into a parking lot and the stupid lady cop pulled out her gun and made her get out of the car like she was trying to run or something. stupid.

Nothing like asking for a break and getting a you're lucky you're not going to jail in return.
Some cops are assholes, others aren't. Just the bad outweigh the good. Damn doughnuts.
Cops need money, due to the depression they get less of it through taxes so they are going crazy pulling people over. I hate cops (always have) and I'm a person who don't hate much. That dude did not need to mess wth you. Some days on my way to school, I see around 6-8 cops.. Its crazy normally I would see none. I mean back and forth for several months an none, but nowadays its crazy!!
I would not trust that math to get me out of anything.
I would just call a lawyer and forgetaboutit. I know a good one who I trust, as much as a filthy lawyer can be trusted.
The only way a cop can not be an a$h0le, is if they quit their job.

you obviously have some growing up to do carter. if someone were to rob your house or hold you and your family at gunpoint who are you going to call? def not the ghostbusters. they are only doing their job and keeping people safe. if they pull you over its because you broke the law.. i just can't stand people who talk about how much they hate the police. generally people hate the police because they did something stupid and got into trouble and they start to hate police.. those people need to grow up and understang that they are doing their job and keeping your a** safe!! for the people that hate police this is all i have to say
"instead of f**k the police how about STOP BREAKING THE LAW RETARDS"
He said that and then proceeded to tell me how he could take me to jail cause its a criminal citation.
Man I love the police but this guy just sounds like a jerk. I would pass that guy all day if I could (while staying the speed limit) just to piss him off. Just imagine what a judge would say....

Reason: clean up
How about instead of trying to prove the cop completely wrong you get your speedometer calibration checked and make sure you're in the right before trying to call the Trooper out in front of a judge.

Well don't ya think violent crime is slightly more important than some guy in a mustang going 5 mph over the limit? Now if that Trooper were stopping some violent crime I would say wow yay.
You say people who dislike cops must be doing something wrong, well it seems close to impossible not to do something wrong. I don't care who ya are, if ya leave the house your breaking the law. You might think nah not me...but I see how people drive. No turn signal is so comon. Hardly no one comes to a complete stop unless they just can't go right then. Some people drive 45 in a 55 then when it drops down to 35 they keep going 45! I drive about 80 miles a day and it seems to me everyone does something that is against the law. I sure wish I could drive with my seat belt off from time to time. I get tired of looking for speed limit signs, speed traps, no turn on red from 4pm to 8pm mon thru fri. exept on a new moon signs, cameras, buckle up and roll up your window when its raining. I have not had a ticket in over 10 years but I dont think it should be so hard to not break the law. Im sorry for using the "hate" word. The older I get the more I feel smothered by the creeping mommy-state, and the hyper-regulation of practically everything.

He gave me a ticket not the other way around. I just have to prove his wasn't calibrated, not that mine was.
Funny how folks become instant "legal experts" when they get a ticket. LOL Too bad that doesn't happen before they do the things they do to GET the tickets.
And it is always humorous how so many people know what Police are paid to do, what their jobs day in and day out are, and what crimes should and should not be taken care of. It is odd to me why they even have Police Academies and active Training for Police Officers. It seems that everyone is born with the knowledge and skill sets to be Police anyways, so why bother with the little stuff like training and getting actual experience. Just save time and money by issuing everyone a badge and gun.
