They left NY for NJ in search of 'greener pastures'. That's just downright funny.

"Everyone's leaving because our taxes are too high!! Qucik, raise them more because we need more revenue!!"
Ah, Liberal logic at it's finest...

Not the promised land by far but think about this. Maybe the people leaving are not only leaving because of the high income taxes but rents and/or property taxes. What does a nice 2 bedroom apartment in Manhattan go for a month? 5 grand? That's probably on the low side. By contrast, a really nice 2 bedroom in a 2 family house with driveway space for 2 cars accross the street from me is $1,150. And we are a whopping 9 miles outside NYC in NJ.
If they can deal with the commute, they can probably keep more money in their own pocket, but I am just taking a guess here. Between the high taxes and cost of everything in the city, rent, parking, taxi cabs, food prices, etc. Hell, a Budweiser at BB Kings in NYC is $8!!!! No lie. A can of PBR is $6. LOL I know. I go to to see bands there occasionally.
Why pay $8 for a single beer when you can pay 7 for a 6 pack, stay home and not have to worry about the DUI?
Anyway, I understand that NJ is way less expensive than NY but aside from the price difference, NJ is pretty much a mirror image of NY. Of course this is coming from a guy who has lived the majority of his life in wide open spaces with as much freedom as I could use on a daily basis. I'm pretty biased against the whole NE region honestly.

I too am chuckling at the irony of this. It's terrifying when NJ is considered a tax haven.
Coming up next is the mass exodus of us Marylanders to places like PA. Our genius governor laid off so many people that he exhausted our unemployment fund. What does a smart liberal do in this case? TRIPLE the unemployment tax for local businesses to cover the deficit.
Thankfully the "WHAT SHOULD WE DO?" dart landed on that option instead of the "Rolling Random Power Brownouts" option, or the "Cut police services back to 4 days a week in Baltimore City" option.
I won't say what I pay here for property tax. Yes it is real low since I homestead (under $600) If I didn't it would be about 5 times what I pay.
And no State income tax,yet.
Yep, when NJ is a tax haven there is something wrong with the picture. I just got back from Newark NJ , lovely place, thinking of retiring there.
