Default Senate Committee Pushes Through Cap and Trade

We are SKEEEEROOOOOOED, friends and neighbors.

Senate Democrats Pass Carbon Plan Over GOP Boycott (Update1) - optionsgirl -- Seeking Alpha

Crap and Tax is landing on us like a ton of coal.

We MUST makes these morons pay come election day. This sort of abuse needs to be stopped!

LOL, Baucus, with re-election worries of his own, tries to have it both ways. Never fear, some baksheesh will be poured over the wounds of the farm interests back home he is worried about as he ultimately swings around in favor of this abortion.

This was the big roadblock in the Senate I was hoping could hold until next year. Very scary development!

Did I read it wrong or did it say it is just out of committee. Still a long way to go. No?

Yes, the headline was misleading.

However, in this case the barrier (committees in the Senate are great places for troublesome bills to go to die) that was leaped was substantial, and the timing very poor.

Now the whole Senate will pick at it for a while, and despite what guys like Baucus are saying, it is very much a live, healthy bill.

It COULD even end up hitting a final vote before Hellcare, or before Christmas.

We can hope for a big delay, but that's what just did NOT happen, darn it.

Cap and trade is a joke. With our current economy that is just what this country needs! As far as health care goes, that is probably the worst thing we can do! Look at other free health care systems and compare care! I work in health care, and see this everyday!

I don't think it will pass, and if it does I think those who voted for it would know they would soon be out of work.

I just finished reading "Superfreakonomics," the sequel to the book Freakonomics (which I highly recommend to anyone interested in reading about some unique ways that economic analysis has been applied to human behavior). They have a whole chapter on global warming and the efforts to fight it; very interesting reading. According to the authors cap and trade is more religious zealotry than a solution to the global warming problem. At best it will, eventually, reduce global warming by a negligble amount (the authors state that most of the warming gasses in the atmosphere are not generated by human activity). On the other hand, there are scientists looking at solutions that are relatively cheap and could be very effective, but Al Gore and other environmentalists are opposed to them because (i) they would not require the significant changes in human activity that the environmentalists want to promote (in other words, we could go on polluting), and (ii) they are simple and inexpensive, while the environmentalists only want solutions that are complicated and costly.

Mpov, you may like the book State of Fear by Michael Chriton (I think. It's the guy that wrote Jurassic Park, anywho). It's a mystery/suspense novel centered around an environmental lawyer who gets caught up in the middle of a global warming conspiracy. Lots of references to actual scientific papers, that just so happen point to a lack of man-made climate change. I highly recommend it. An excellent read, too.

This is how Obama stimulates the 'green jobs' market. Kill all the other options until the only one left is the one you like. Flippin spectacular.

The only jobs that will be left are the ones Obama and Company say you should have. It's the change thing.
