Default Wal-mart is evil

I went to Wal-mart the other day and when I was checking out I noticed she (the casher lady) was charging me for the some of the same items twice. That is why you dont go to wal-mart.

Walmart is evil. They are pushing local businesses out of business with the promise of low prices. But with those low prices, you also get low quality and rude employees. Very few of their employees work more than 20-25 hours a week, making them ineligible for medical benefits. Walmart actually teaches their employees how to work just enough hours to still be able to collect full Welfare benefits. I only shop at Walmart when it's absolutely necessary.

Didn't know that Eye. Learn something every day. When I was 14 or 15 my friend's mom worked 3rd shift at wally world. Well we'd go with her sometimes and stay the whole shift. She got in deep crap on several occasions when we wouldn't stop playing baseball bat hockey in the display office chairs.

If they come to your area and put local stores out of business, those stores either had insanely inflated prices or poor service/location/selection. Local stores can survive Walmart. They just have to up their game. Specialize, or lower their prices. Rely on customer loyalty. Walmart does what ALL stores try to do. They just do it BETTER! Remember Walmart started out as a single Mom and Pop place. Sam just knew what he was doing.
Also remember, as to quality of service, everything is regional. Jenn when I lived in Cali I thought they had rude employees EVERYWHERE. People who thought I should be grateful they even BOTHERED to take my money. At the Walmarts around here I can't remember EVER having a bad experience. In fact my youngest daughter has a favorite cashier that she knows by name, who always comes over and says Hi and TALKS to us. Walmart is one of the FEW stores where if I ask a guy in hardware where to find something in the toy aisle, he can and will actually TAKE ME TO IT. Or TAKE me to someone who DOES know.

Remember they also hire a LOT of retirees, students, single moms etc., who don't WANT to be full time. And they pay them better than minimum wage.(Again, may be regional)

I'm sure Walmart counsels its part time employees on how to "maximize their employment AND governmental entitlements" [quote]Originally posted by EyeOfTheStorm [b]This is not a problem with Walmart. Its a problem with Welfare that ALLOWS healthy people to only work part time and still collect benefits.

I shop there several times a week. They DO carry some cheap and "inferior" products (some of their electronics), but if you're a smart shopper and look around online first Walmart actually has some of the BEST prices on higher end stuff too. Remember its BECAUSE of Walmart that you can buy $29 DVD players and $300 computers. And here's a little personal story. I bought a Sony (higher end) DVD player for $350. It lasted 10 yrs. ($35 a year) I bought one at Walmart (Goldstar) for $29. It has already lasted one year...
LONG LIVE THE EMPIRE!! (of Walmart)

I just don't understand a place that can hire a greeter to stand there (or sometimes even sit) BUT never has any carts in their lobby and NEVER has enough cashiers working. The Walmarts out here are nasty....the one closest to my home is deemed the worst in the nation. You can't get a cashier to tell you the total when you pay, let alone be friendly and say hello. Maybe small town Walmarts are different, but here in the the big city, I'd rather die than shop at Walmart....let alone any place where the employees wear smocks!

I've seen the unions push more jobs overseas and destroyed business that provided hundreds of jobs to the community. You want RUDE? Look no further than a Union shop!

In 1972 I got my first job at a local parts house-home store. I went on to manage it and was there for nine years. It was built in 1954. It's two main competitors are Wal-Mart and Home Depot. They are right accross the street in the largest shopping area in southern Illinois. They COMPETE for business and are quite successful at it.

No doubt. They put Levi's and Vlasic out of business here in the states as well. THey really squeeze suppliers until they get every last drop.

Here in Arkansas, there is basically nowhere else to go, and then they raise the prices to normal.

In fact, a lot of the prices here are more than they are at Kansas City Hy-Vee stores. I pick up some supplies in Kansas City on my way back to Arkansas on a regular basis.
