The most obvious is the emergence of a group called the “Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.” The group’s stated goal is to reveal the ugly truth about John Kerry’s war record in Vietnam. It turns out that a major financial backer of this gang never saw a swift boat and what these guys have to say is far from the truth.
The “Swift Boat Veterans for Truth” launched their assault on Kerry in a series of commercials airing in the so-called swing states and embellished it in a book to be published this week, Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry. Their unsubstantiated allegations are so maliciously slanderous that Republican Senator John McCain called on George Bush to demand that the group pull its commercials from the airwaves. Ironically, McCain was campaigning with Bush when he rose to Kerry’s defense. The Administration’s response came from Press Secretary Scott McClellan. He said the president wished that all soft-money ads would be regulated. He didn’t say a word about the latest smear against Kerry.
Of course, how could he? After all, swift boat veteran and the book’s co-author John O’Neill spearheaded the attacks on McCain in the 2000 South Carolina primary when the Arizona senator threatened to derail Bush’s march to the Republican nomination. O’Neill led the surreptitious campaign that questioned the veracity of McCain’s POW status, implied that his imprisonment had made him mentally unstable, and made anonymous phone calls informing South Carolina’s voters that McCain has a black child. Actually, the McCains adopted a child from Bangladesh . . .
alling themselves Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (SBVT), they have taken to the airways to claim that John Kerry didn’t deserve the medals he received and that he is dishonest, unreliable, etc.... But the men of SBVT had almost no firsthand experience with John Kerry during their service in Vietnam. For example, USA Today reported that “None of the 13 men in the TV ads served on either of the two swift boats ... Kerry commanded.... Of the group’s 254 members--out of 3,500 swift boat sailors who served in Vietnam--only one served under Kerry. The rest who served on Kerry’s boats back his record.”
Jim Rassman, the Army Special Forces officer whose life John Kerry saved when Kerry’s swift boat was detonated by a mine in March 1969, and who recommended Kerry for the Silver Star for his action, has written, “The Swift Boat Veterans [for Truth] should hang their heads in shame.” According to Rassman, “Some of these Republican-sponsored veterans are the same ones who spoke out against [Kerry] at the behest of the Nixon administration in 1971. But this time their attacks are more vicious, their lies cut deep and are directed not just at John Kerry, but at me and each of his crewmates as well. This hate-filled ad asserts that I was not under fire; it questions my words and my Navy records. This smear campaign has been launched by people without decency....”
And it’s not with a little irony that one of the first men to come to the defense of John Kerry was John McCain. Campaigning with George Bush. no less, McCain said of a malicious TV ad by SBVT, “I deplore this kind of politics. I think the ad is dishonest and dishonorable.” McCain went on to urge Bush to repudiate the men of SBVT. But, just as he did to McCain in 2000, Bush--always the self-inflated coward--walked away from the issue to let it fester and do its dirty work.

I was very upset to see McCain fall out of the pres election i would have voted him in anyday.
I hope more people can understand Bush's direction now. Or at least come forth and admit the guy isn't all most people crack him out to be.

Newly obtained military records of one of Sen. John F. Kerry's most vocal critics, who has accused the Democratic presidential candidate of lying about his wartime record to win medals, contradict his own version of events.
In newspaper interviews and a best-selling book, Larry Thurlow, who commanded a Navy Swift boat alongside Kerry in Vietnam, has strongly disputed Kerry's claim that the Massachusetts Democrat's boat came under fire during a mission in Viet Cong-controlled territory on March 13, 1969. Kerry won a Bronze Star for his actions that day.

But Thurlow's military records, portions of which were released yesterday to The Washington Post under the Freedom of Information Act, contain several references to "enemy small arms and automatic weapons fire" directed at "all units" of the five-boat flotilla. Thurlow won his own Bronze Star that day, and the citation praises him for providing assistance to a damaged Swift boat "despite enemy bullets flying about him."

Sorry to say, but folks are mincing words with the “swift boat” stuff. Sure, those who spoke out against Kerry may not have been on his boat, but that does not mean they don’t know him, or knew him intimately in Vietnam. It is the same as those who serve in an Armored Company in the Army KNOW the other soldiers (and officers) who serve in that same Company…. No matter if they rode in the same tank or not.
I saw the press conference the Swift Boat Veterans Against Kerry held… I watched it ALL…. Listened to each person.
Sorry, Kerry is not the man he wants everyone to think he is. And he is either a bold face liar or a war criminal…. Hmmmmmm Which is better?
Also Kerry fought harder to get OUT of Vietnam than he did when he was there, the short amount of time he was.
So please folks, before posting political crap, remember that it is just as easy to argue the other way. But oh how easy it is to just see what we WANT to see….. OK, so you guys are defending a guy who picked up a grenade launcher and fired at a very close cliff. So close that he got injured by shrapnel from the cliff when it exploded. Now to me that's not heroic, that's just ridiculous. He wasn't qualified to fire that gun and he wasn't the only person injured in that incident. He injured a couple other guys under his command. Oh yeah, that's exactly the kind of guy I want running my military. Another incident of his from Vietnam, his boat was under fire from a single guy, they wounded the assailant and when he turned to run, Kerry ran him down and shot him in the back. Yeah, he's a hero alright. Oh yeah, every purple heart he won in Vietnam, he put himself in for. 2 of the 3 were rejected by one CO, when he was replaced, Kerry put himself in again and was awarded them the second time around. So lemme see, not only is he careless and wreckless but he's vain and conceited. Not to mention the fact that once he got his third medal, he returned home and protested in anti-war rallies ( something active duty members are NOT allowed to do ) calling the guys he was shoulder to shoulder with baby killers. I'm sorry but as a member of the armed forces and a red blooded hard working American, I can't vote for this man and then look at myself to shave every morning.
