I am currently displaced by the storm and agree that it sucks.
Besides the obvious flooding and wind damage, I am most ticked about the looting and the lawlessness. One could almost understand trying to get a box of formula for your child or insulin for your diabetic granny, but c'mon. People walking down the street with a stolen gun, a armful of Tommy Jeans and a new Flat screen should be shot on site.
The governor of N.O. finally declared Marshal law at least a day after the surrouding parishes. The crazy part is that N.O. is the one that should have declared Marshal law in the first place - it just about needs that on a daily basis anyway. What you do not hear on the news is that there are bands of law abiding citizens with pickups and shotguns (no ballistics) helping out where needed.
I've got family in the medical industry having to deal with people trying to overun the hospital when they were the one's that volunteered to help. Kind of makes me want to stay where I am right now and not go back.
The storm sucks and makes you want to rebuild better. Some of the people make you want to turn your back and walk away.
NrlyCajun, I'm on the same page as you. Even with all that has happened, there's no reason for stealing a t.v. or eight pairs of shoes. I even saw a video of two police officers in a walmart with buggies helping themselves to whatever. If that don't make you wanna shoot someone in the butt. I still can't believe that one guy on CNN said we shouldn't use tax money to help out. I don't care if 200 years ago it was written in the Constitution or not, those people need help. It would be one thing if we were paying for their new cars, but right now they are just trying to survive. My thoughts and prayers go out to all that have been affected by Katrina.

Looting is one thing, but they have had Coast Guard helos shot at while attempting rescues. WTF is wrong with people? I went through Hurricane Isable 2 years ago, which isn't as bad as Katrina.

I think Bush should not have cut the funding to reinforce the levees. The tax-cut and subsequent invasion has left us vulnerable, has overextended the National Guard, heck, even the Coast Guard is in Iraq now.
We don't have boats, apparently, we don't have police, and it's taken us a WEEK to get those folks food and water.
We had supplies to Iraqis before the bombing even BEGAN, same for Afghanistan.
Bush says "No one could have guessed the levees could have broken," when he cut the funding in 2002. Mary Landrieu screamed on the Senate floor trying to finish the project, but the Tax Cut which should have gone to PROTECT New Orleans was more important.
He's lying his behind off!!! His approach is faith-based. Scientists have called for upgrading the levees since the early 90s. Clinton approved the project, and it was almost done before the project was un funded in 2002.
Shameful.
Irresponsible.
That's why we PAY taxes in the 1st place. Now he's pulling in his POPS and CLINTON to beg for money, because the Gov't doesn't have any.
And his 9-11-style of hiding from the problem shows a total lack of leadership. Here's you PRESIDENT PLAYING GOLF while thousands of people are suffering , corpses lie in the streets, and a city is destroyued from his own irresponsibility.
