I do my best. I find it particularly easy to do in the arena of tools... The import ones are usually crap anyway.

Nyt, I mis-spoke about looking at "Japan last". Obviously, China comes last, in virtually every list. I might buy from China in preference to, say, North Korea or Iran, MAYBE Venezuela, but that's it.

Tools are easy to find - tools that cost super cheap prices are usually Chinese imports (and a waste of money - who wants a wrench that will bend the first time you lean on it?).

I've stripped my share of screws & bolts, but I never stripped a scredriver & socket until I had to pick up a couple of tools from Walgreens on a Sunday night emergency.

Made in China . . .

2 years back I bought a tool kit just to get the plastic case (it had a cool case, with a running pony on it and the word Mustang on both sides). Cost me $13.95 at WalMart.

I removed all the tools and replaced them with Craftsman items.

I tossed the Chinese trash (the ratchet fell apart into 3 pieces the moment I picked it up) into my donation box.

I painted the tool case with black Krylon plastic paint, and it looked great.

I think the wrenches in that set were just cast mild steel.

Sure, the set cost an insanely cheap price - but it was worthless as tools (bad raw materials), and the workmanship was horrible.

I have rarely broken an american socket, and never stripped an american ratchet. My air tools are all Matco Craftsman and Snapon. I like buying things once. I have found cheap tools to be more of a hinderance than a help.

No japanese tools in my tool box. In Japan they do not use hand tools they use chop sticks.

I simply won't buy any handtools other than Craftsman not only because they're American made, bt that lifetime guarantee is nice to have.

Last night my brother dropped off 2 Harley Davidson Thermal T's for me. The first thing I did was look where they were made... in the USA, of course... and one even has the town it was made in!

One interesting note, craftsman tools are made in the US, only ones I buy. But you can also get "sears" brand tools that are not.

I have been trying find a drill press (bench type) at a reasonable price, seems they are ALL made in China, Craftsman included.
A Birmingham Drill made in USA drill press cost over $2500! I'm not assemblying an Atom Bomb!
Any sugestions?

Sears started doing this 6 or 7 years ago.

They are testing the waters, seeking "permission" from their market to start making Craftsman tools in China...

Avoid the cheapies. Sears will get the message.

Found a good source for drill bits:

BLU-MOL Power Tool Accessories

I'll see if I can find the press.
