Hello. I was going to jump in on this a couple of days ago, but this situation is so horrible at every phase, I really didn't even know where to start. One thing that seems to have been overlooked is that the poor girl wasn't even given that draconian sentence because the judge honestly believed that it was the will of god that he do that. If he believed that he was doing what his god demanded of him, he wouldn't have lessened the sentence because of external pressures. Personally, i've never been a bible kind of girl, but there are some valuable lessons in it, and Islam looks at the old testament pretty much the same way that christianity does. There was this guy named Shimei who used to throw rocks at David and talk to him like a dog. David's people asked him if he wanted them to go over and take this idiot out, but David said no, God might have sent him to do that. Later on, when David became king, Shimei came and apologized for that rock-throwing thing, and David's response was to kill him where he stood, because he knew that if God had sent him to throw those rocks and talk crazy to him, he wouldn't be here apologizing because circumstances had changed.
That judge is just as familiar with that story as anyone else would be, so that tells me that his sentence was based solely on his own nasty, evil disposition,and the fact that the law allowed him to act out on his own twisted ideas of justice, not what he believed to be divine decree. That sentence based on intolerance in its most extreme form, which has us in kind of a catch 22 situation. It would be very difficult to oppose that that sort of intolerance without practising the very same level of intolerance, but that's what we need to do. These people are crazy. For the record Islam was founded in about 600 A.D., not 400. Mohammed died in 632 A.D. and about two weeks later the Sunnis and the Shi'ites started fighting over who his rightful successor should be. That fight rages on to this day.

There is a logical sequence by which any act may be tethered (however tenuously) to a moral base. I have seen this concept demonstrated in every potential example, from the mass murder of small children to the more imaginative excesses of Buchenwald.
It is particularly ironic when it is a moral base drawn from the Bible (which is also the most frequently cited source).
Underlying these discussions, one usually finds moral equivalence, ie, ANY unjust act is equally unjust with all other unjust acts.
Driving 1 mile per hour over the limit on a deserted highway is, by this process, equal in every way to walking into a kindergarten and killing every little kid.
Once ANY credibility is yielded to this insane concept, anarchy is all that remains. Logic is the first casualty on the path to moral equivilance.

I saw a interview a little while ago on FOX with A woman named Tammy Bruce who has a talk show on the west coast (never heard her before) but she was a member of NOW and was pretty high up in the pecking order of NOW but she quit around ten years ago when she reliezed it had more concerns about leftist idiology than the rights and well being of women. She slammed all the feminist orgs. A very interesting interview.
